Mine shows the same thing. Considering it just released I don't see how this could really be the case. I hope it isn't. Either way I have a bunch of unwatched movies both Bluray and DVD's so I'm in no immediate rush.

I'm guessing they're probably not getting as much copies considering their financial situation so they have to make additional orders. Good thing I'm in the same boat as you so no rush either.

Is anyone anxious for THE FOLLOWING to get a spine?

A better question is: does Nolan deserve a spot in the collection?
I just don't think his films (Batman aside) have much re-play value.

I may be in the minority but I hope Criterion doesn't have him in their plans. I think there are other directors (*ahem* Rivette) they should go with first.

I wouldn't mind his addition to the canon

I think he's a rather great director whose put out some solid films since The Following. I try to keep in mind that just about any new spine# will always get the "such-and-such deserves it more than this guy", so I know that any spine that I really love, there will be at least one person that will desire a plague upon my house for feeling as I do (or did)

Only reason I care. Otherwise, could care less if all his film were in the collection.

Well...unless they are "including" May 26 (until end of day)...here is the list of the "dreaded 26" Criterion NetFlix streams going away on/after May 26, that I managed to see:

1.) Harlan County USA
2.) Au Revoir Les Enfants
3.) Mon Oncle
4.) Knife in the Water
5.) Rat Catcher
6.) La Jetee
7.) Children of Paradise
8.) Eyes Without a Face
9.) The Thief of Bagdad
10.) A Nos Amors
11.) Beauty and the Beast
12.) Hearts and Minds
13.) The Spirit of the Beehive
14.) Burden of Dreams
15.) Shoot the Piano Player
16.) Ballad of a Soldier
17.) Sans Soleil
18.) Amarcord
19.) The Virgin Spring
20.) La Strada
21.) Grey Gardens
22.) Branded to Kill
23.) Bed and Board
24.) Solaris
25.) Black Orpheus
26.) Lord of the Flies

Mon Oncle was a cute film...he's like a variation on Mr. Bean...I think my wife and 11 year old would love it.

Beauty and the Beast didn't hook me until about 20 mins. or so in and then I really started to enjoy it.

I watched Branded to Kill during a lull at work today...really enjoyed it Spidey!

Lord of the Flies...Christ...I had forgotten that this was the SAME film that I had watched in High School, due to the fact that we had read the book (9th Grade I believe)...1976 to put it in perspective.

It's a release label, nothing special.

EDIT: Several of their releases on Laserdisc have made com-backs to the collection and yes, that includes THE GAME. Some people need to do research and it helps to have lddb.com as an outlet.
I like to think they are special...considering the vast majority of other "distributors" wouldn't touch 3/4 of their library, let alone remaster them, commission an accompanying essay, or present them in a spiffy package...

Well, they probably just are a bunch of distributors but they cannot be touch my most of the so called "competence" (In this case, other distributors) at the top of their game. While other distributors see "art cinema" as something that doesn't hold a market, Criterion see something else. The catalog they hold on is full of true jewels and most of the films included in the Collection have great attributes to be there. They probably aren't more than simply distributors but when I spot the brand at a store I only see excellence .

I recently just got into Akira Kurosawa's films and I absolutely love them! What are some other good Japanese film makers\films that I should check out?

On Blu-ray? There still not that many around. In the UK are 2 Immamura Films on Blu. Not much more. Pale Flower is great but in no way close to Kurosawa. For DVD check out Harakiri by Masaki Kobayashi also his Kwaidan and Samurai Rebellion. Than it's Kenji Mizoguchi with Ugetsu, Sansho the Bailiff and Tales of the Taira Clan. Hiroshi Inagaki's three Samurai 1-3 also known as Musashi Miyamoto. From Kinji Fukasaku Shogun's Samurai to the more Entertainement Lady Snowblood (skip part 2) and Lone Wolf and Baby Cart Movies. Newer Movies are Twilight Samurai and the follow up Hidden Blade, and When the last sword is drawn and 13 Assassins. Also some of the Ichi the blind swordsman (Zatoichi) are great. Less Samurai but good An Actors Revenge from Kon Ichikawa and his Burmese Harp and Fires on Plain. From Masahiro Shinoda Assassination , Samurai Spy, Captives Island, Silence, Under the Cherry Blossom Trees. From Hideo Gosha Sword of the Beast, The Wolves, Onimasa. From Kihachi Okamoto Sword of Doom and Samurai Assassin and Kill!! And for more avant garde Shohei Immamura maybe his whole work.

After spending some time with Solaris, its probably my favorite blu-ray of the year so far. Up there with Sony's treatment of Taxi Driver. I wish Criterion would dive into more Russian film.

As far as Nolan goes, I support putting out any of his stuff if it gets Criterion the cash to fund more obscure releases.

Hmm, I am by no means the accomplished videophile that many users are, so don't let me sway you. I think the appreciation of Solaris comes from the fact that this is as good as its ever going to look aside from a pristine 35mm print, rather than its potential to contend with the best of the Blu-ray format. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the only times a Tarkovsky film in the US has gotten any sort of home video justice.

The long version of Andrei Rublev will be a problem, I don't know what state the parts are that are missing in the Russian Blu-ray. Probably not in a very healthy state, until a large scale restoration is done. That it's still one of my favorites of all time.
