Default Any reason to not get LOST Complete Collection over individual seasons?

Hey everyone, I've just started watching Lost (I just started season 3 the other day, so far I'm loving it!) and I wanna get myself my own copy of the show.

I was thinking of going for the Complete Collection, but is there any reason that the individual season sets would be better? I'm really only asking in terms of bonus features. Like if there is anything that's only in any of the individual seasons that's not on in the Complete Collection.

Thanks in advance!

It should be all the same content regardless of which versions you purchase. The Complete Collection would probably be more space convenient. That's the only benefit I can see to owning The Complete Collection over the individual releases.

The disks included in the Complete Collection are the exact ones given in the individual releases, they're just packaged together.

Lost is my favorite show of all time, and I had been purchasing the seasons as they were released on DVD prior to switching to high definition. I received the complete collection on Blu-Ray as a gift and it's an awesome set, great for any fan that has devoted a lot of time to the series. It's got a couple nice little gems, and some cool packaging. It's the biggest conversation piece in my collection, by far.

The Complete Collection also includes a few features on the bonus disk that are not available anywhere else.

The only reason I'd have considered getting the seasons would be to chase down the retailer exclusive disc sets. Best Buy had a bonus disc with the blu's of seasons 5 and 6 and there were early exclusive discs from... target? for the dvd releases.
But the complete collection is fantastic and I have no regrets going that way.

Sounds good, thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm gonna get myself the complete collection.

This show is soooo good by the way. I'm actually glad I only started watching about a week ago because having to wait for new episodes every week and new seasons every couple of months would KILL me!

I have the individual sets 1-4, season 5 in the Dharma Initiative kit and the Complete Collection. Looking back I would have gone with just the individual seasons and I may do it eventually. The problem with the Complete Collection to me besides being bulky is the fact that the discs are housed in just cardboard sleeves and can easily be scratched straight from the factory. Disc 1 of season 3 was scratched along with a disc in seasons 5 and 6 in my set. The bonus disc in the Complete Collection is hidden within the case topper that's shaped like the island. Although this was cute the first time I found it, it's really inconvenient to have to turn the thing around and around like a
[Show spoiler]frozen donkey wheel.
Something I would point out though is that the discs in the Dharma Initiative kit for Season 5 have no artwork on them and are plain black to match their floppy disc appearance however in the regular season 5 set they do have artwork on the discs.

Lol I feel bad for you. Mid- 3rd season is where it starts to get retarded. Season 4 & 5 are the worst, but 6th was good.

The Complete Collection should have all the same stuff as the individual seasons, with probably some more bonus content. I thought there was an exclusive bonus disc included with it too. It's a fine way to get the whole thing in one go.

You might want the individual seasons if you don't want the big bulky package, and if you want only specific seasons. It might also be cheaper, depending on prices and where you buy them from.

I always prefer buying seasons individually rather than buying the complete series. The Complete Collection almost always has worse packaging. And when buying all the seasons together, you run a very high risk of at least one disc being defective. If that happens you have to return the ENTIRE set and exchange it for a whole new one. So let’s say you buy the complete collection and discover a defect halfway through Season 3, then you’ll have to exchange the set and watch the ENTIRE series all over again to ensure that your exchanged copy is ok. And this all has to be done within the 30 day return window.

Yeah, if I were you, I’d get them individually.

Well you won't find season 3 because if I'm not mistaken the actual packaging changed.

returning the whole set is a non issue. 99% of stores if you explain the problem about the disc will just exchange the defective disc for you and let you keep the discs you've watched. Besides it's a disney produced show, call the number on the disc and after a few steps to check the disc with a specialist they will send you out a envelope to return the disc, and once received they will send you out a new disc. I've done this a few times with blu's that all of a sudden have playback issues not related to firmware issues, after the store's return policy has lapsed.

If you don't own any of the individual sets already the Complete Collection might be the way to go. There are a ton of wonderful extras exclusive to the complete set on an extra Blu-ray disc. Best Buy did an exclusive for S6 which included all of these extras -- however, they were presented in Standard Definition on a DVD. I didn't mind because extras aren't as necessary to have in HD as the series itself and I had been collecting the individual releases. However, I wouldn't want to miss out on those extras. If you can't find the Best Buy Exclusive version of S6 somehow the complete set remains the only way to get those bonus materials.

Yes, I think in spite of unresolved plot issues, some silliness and (for me) an ending that didn't quite work (although most critics thought the ending was quite emotional and fulfilling), that Lost was the finest dramatic series ever to be broadcast on television.

One thing you might want to do is check the Entertainment Weekly website to see if they've archived the Lost analysis they used to do every week. They had a writer who each week wrote very deep and long pieces on possible interpretations of each show. Some were based on literary sources, some on the bible, etc. These were quite sophisticated pieces and I was always surprised that these came from EW. It might be fun to reach each one (if they still exist) inbetween watching each episode. What the author got wrong was just as much fun to read as what he got right.

You just started and you're on season 3 already? Seems like a Lost addiction :P

I normally don't get special editions or whatever, just want the disc content, so I got it for the bonus disc, but I was not dissapointed with the package Recommended 100%.

Well, my boxset came with all discs in perfect condition, and I put them on disc binders anyway so this wan't a problem for me.

That wasn't the experience with my friend. He bought the entire series of Friends on DVD at Best Buy and had issues with 2 of the discs. He explained the problem to the store and she told him, "I'm sorry, but if you're having any kind of problem with the product, we need to exchange the whole thing."

I guess it depends on what employee you encounter and how much common sense they have. It's always a hit or miss with places like Best Buy.
