Default Pyrates (2012)

Pyrates to Invade TV

Quote:
What do you get when you mix a bundle of swashbucklers, Ridley Scott, and Tony Scott? Apparently, you've got an upcoming Fox program by the name of Pyrates, an in-depth look at the greatest fleecing in the history of pirating - yeah, even greater than Napster. The series will be backed by two Scotts' Scott Free Productions, and will be from the creative mind of Barry Schindel (Numbers, Law & Order), with 24's Stephen Hopkins tapped to helm the first episode.

Deadline has the scoop on these breaking developments, which come hot off the heels of Pirates of the Caribbean's successful box office debut – the largest thus far of the year. Pirates are definitely still in, and may take over the role of the vampire with how many pirate-themed productions are on the table throughout the year.

The series itself will look to encompass the entire history of the greatest heist in the history of piracy, 1628's acquirement of the Spanish silver fleet, all while entertaining the viewer with a "gritty portrayal" of the events. It looks to be of the limited variety, running from 10-13 episodes as a miniseries.
Really looking forward to this as it sounds like an awesome crew and happy it's just a mini-series and not something that will get canceled right away with no ending or a dragging story.

Not a fan of the POC film series, only saw the 1st film and didn't care much for it.

Will wait for casting announcements to decide if I'll bother checking this out.

Huge fan of the POTC films so really looking forward to this but it seems they are going for a more adult gritty approach with the film and the only thing it has to do with POTC is the timing of the release.

POTC are the perfect coma movies. As in If I'm having trouble sleeping, any one of them are this decades English Patient, within 10 minutes I am OUT!!!!!! But honestly past 10 minutes of the 2nd movie and beyond I have no idea what happens, never bothered to care. Pirates are not comedic, they should be savage and brutal and never remind me of that old vampire Keith Richards. Besides just to prove how lame it's getting, Hangover II is about to obliterate POTC's opening weekend Box office take, lol.
