Destroy All Monsters Blu-ray Review

Godzilla vs. Megalon Blu-ray ?

Today, Media Blasters posted this on their Facebook page:
Quote:
Talking about Godzilla we can make it official now, we have DAM and Godzilla vs. Megalon. DAM is scheduled for October and will be both Blu-Ray and DVD releases. Do not know all the details about the extras yet. We will post with it later as they become available. Now for the funny part, we were not looking at Godzilla vs. Megalon till everyone said we have it so we asked they said ok so we picked it up.
I'm super excited. October seems to be a great month for kaiju.

Hopefully, the "embargo" has been lifted since the 90's, and Toho will now allow Media to include bilingual versions and chapters.
(Things were pretty tough for ADV Films in the frontier early-DVD days, when Japan wasn't making their own DVD's yet, and Toho worried about foreign competition for their anime and Classic-kaiju.)

I just hope for the English version of DAM, they'll use the AIP cut and for Megalon, they'll use the International print.

Don't Media Blasters usually have terrible transfers?

Great news, Megalon is the only one missing from my Godzilla DVD collection. Now if we could just get Classic Media to start releasing some more Blu-rays.

Don't very good masters for these already exist? So isn't this question kind of moot?

I'm not looking forward to Echo Bridge's release of Godzilla vs Biollante. Something tells me that it'll be horrible judging from prior releases which is why I imported the Japanese Blu-ray. The interesting thing about it is that we're getting both films before the Japanese releases unless something happens.

Back at Toho Kingdom, several members called Echo Bridge to see if they have the rights to Biollante. A spokewoman told them they do have the rights and they're planning to release it soon.

Seems pretty shakey. Hopefully they just port the Japanese Bluray and slap on the dub track. At least, I'll be able to retire my VHS. This is the best Godzilla movie imo.

I agree. I first saw it two days ago on my imported Blu-ray and it was amazing. I can now see why its considered to be one of the best Heisei films. Some of the English spoken in the film however was pretty silly though. "Goddamn it, its Godzilla!"

Disappointing to see MediaBlasters getting the rights to this one - their past Blu releases (particularly under their TokyoShock and ShriekShow lines) have been terrible, showing very minimal improvement over the DVD, suffering constant delays (usually unannounced), missing content (both the Tokyo Gore Police and Machine Girl discs list a 2nd disc of extras, but only include a movie-disc), glitches (the same DVDs locking up at the menu, causing you to restart from the beginning), or video issues (the credits issue on Queensblade).

On top of that, the prices aren't really competitive - Mill Creek has been cranking out double-features with good quality and a super-low price for a while now.

Not holding my breath, but would love to buy it if it turns out any better than their prior releases. Queensblade at least had great video!

And why is that, person who supposdly knows a lot about this subject but gives no evidence? Are you familar with Japanese releases at all? It will be the same transfer. The only reaosn it won't be is if the Japanse are super protective of home sales and only allow the US licensors to use shoddy masters. However, seeing as Sony got the good masters from Toho, I seriously doubt this will happen. Same goes for Media Blaster's releases. This isn't the case like H20 or some other film that had never been mastered in high-def. It's already been done. This is why the Media Blaster's Queens Blade blus look exactly like the Japanese ones and are in perfect quality. If these companies would've done the transfers their selves, yes there could be some problems. But that risk doens't exist I think.

That's what I was getting at. It's possible that might happen. Look what happened with Gojira.

Yeah, but the thing is Classic Media released Gojira before Toho released their Blu-ray and the results aren't that great. However, it might be a possibility that Media Blasters obtained the HD remastered footage from Japan that Toho aired.

Judging from their previous releases, they haven't really gotten International versions of the films except Latitude Zero (the movie was made in English), so they probably have the Japanese cut of the film with the International dub. However, I hope they would use the AIP dub for DAM.

I love the previous Media Blasters Godzilla releases....but I've bought all of them either at B&M stores or Amazon.

HOWEVER....Rareflix is also owned by the same guy that owns Media Blasters, and if you order ANYTHING from them directly, you WILL get screwed.

I recently (a couple months ago) ordered 2 copies of the Media Blasters 3-DVD set Toho Pack, and was shipped just ONE copy about 7 weeks after the CC payment was accepted, processed, and billed to me. It took about a dozen phone calls to several flunkies until I spoke to the company owner, and a couple emails and 3 weeks before I gave up seeking my $29 back. And I paid via debit card, so no chargebacks are possible.

I'll buy everything Godzilla that MB releases....but only when I can hold the physical copy in my hands at the store, or when Amazon shows it as IN STOCK.

I will never order from them directly....just a post of caution for you all.
