Exclamation Blu-ray movies with different covers: What do you think ?

Hi,

Maybe I´m a little picky, but...

I hate the fact that some movies have to have different covers...
(even if I look at them only once in a while)

It´s annoying...

For example:

HOSTEL. USA

HOSTEL. German

HOSTEL. UK

HOSTEL. Jap

And there are a lot more movies out there with different art works.
Why are they doing this ?

This suxxx, they should all be the same...

What do you think ?

It makes business sense to appeal to the local market in terms of images. I have little doubt that these companies spend a lot of money on marketing research to show them what images will grab attention.

I kinda like the variety of covers.
It makes the Blu-Ray version feel more special.

It just shows you immediately which edition you are getting. Sometimes foreign editions have different extras. That way, fans (the demented fanatical type, myself included) of a certain movie can be sure they have all of 'em.

Oh, btw.

Some interesting stuff about the US Version and the German Version of Hostel:

http://www.schnittberichte.com/schni...ht.php?ID=4524

US-DVD: Sony Pictures - Unrated Director's Cut
Vs.
German DVD: Sony Pictures - Extended Version (SPIO/JK)

Are the scenes from the extended version also included in the US Director´s cut Blu-ray ?

Default Different Coverart

I gotta say, the Japan spec edition is the most attention grabbing one of the bunch. It really makes you feel whats going on in this movie.

After awhile it just becomes different juxtapositions of different heads on different color backgrounds. Not too imaginative from a graphic arts viewpoint.

I Kind of Like the idea. In fact studios should let us vote on which cover want, about a month before it comes out.

THAT WOULD BE SWEET. & combat downloadable media

I don't like the floating heads thing either. Why can't they just use the original movie poster or a variation on that? Usually those are much better anyway.

for certain titles i would rather to have the option to see different colors available for it. such as Sin City. for others it really doesn't bother me what the cover is.

Can't help but agree with you on that one.

Then it even gives the option of which Blu Ray I would like the most.. not to mention if one of the covers is really ugly and then one of the others is really good looking..then I'd obviously pick the none ugly one lol.

Cover art doesn't bother me, as long as the case styles stay the same. Though I know this is tougher with box sets and special editions and whatnot.

I think it's cool they put enough thought and time in to a title to customize it to the taste of the local market.

I know I expect it in my market, why wouldn't everyone else?
