That doesn't bother me nearly as much as releasing a complete set (with additional bonus features) after all seasons have been released separately.

Because they haven't been cropped so much as re-framed. Virtually no information has been cropped away, just added to the sides. I actually would much prefer a 4:3 presentation because it's the way it was intended to be framed - everyone is always standing in the middle of the frame in a way they don't in widescreen-filmed shows. Still, it's better than cropping and I'm sure I'd get used to them. I have HD versions of Friends and the first 2 seasons of the West Wing and they both do this. ER does as well. Seinfeld does a mixture of cropping and adding to the sides for the newer HD versions.
I'd much prefer they released two versions like they used to for 'widescreen'/'fullscreen' DVDs... Last edited by nametag; 05-29-2011 at 11:45 AM. |

Oh, snap, I didn't even think about that. I, too, hope they're the extended versions (I call them extended because a lot of the footage they reinserted wasn't even in the original broadcasts).

Ugh. Syndication cuts are HORRENDOUS. I can't stand when they do that on home video releases. Do they not have people looking after these TV shows?

Seinfeld is Sony as opposed to Warner. I'd say ER and West Wing would be better guesses as they're Warner releases as well, although what with Seinfeld having also had HD TV masters made of them (though with some cropping compared to the aforementioned Warner shows) I'm guessing it will probably come out one day and maybe if Sony see Friends doing well it'll encourage them to get a move on.

I really didn't think this would happen. So glad to see it is. Now I hope they do it right. It's probably my favorite T.V. show of all time (at least top 3). I was watching one of my dvds just a few days ago, after a long hiatus not watching anything Friends, and it was just as good as ever. It really has stood the test of time (at least for me). I laughed my butt off. I'm not too happy with the $200 price tag. I'm liking maybe $130 better.
