I have a VHS copy of Barbarian with an alternative ending. Cannot remember exactly, but it does not involve the princess and Akiro does not end off by saying "and this story shall also be told". Does enyone remember this ending and why there were two versions of the film?

If the point of releasing these was to garner excitement for the reboot, it's not working on me. Im much more excited to see the original on blu than to see the knock-off in a theater.

Destroyer is garbage in...garbage out. The original was written by Oliver Stone (Platoon) and rewritten and directed by John Milius (Apocalypse Now). They hired big brutes to do the fighting and saved the dialog for professional actors like James Earl Jones and Max Von Sydow. Then they glued it together with one of the best scores ever written (IMHO)

Since Universal has no financial stake in the new remake from Lionsgate, I'm pretty sure that's not their intention

As Imrahil2001 said, it's the other way around.

Why do most all Blu-Ray releases choose to only include the extended/director's cuts of films? I really wish they would always give both the theatrical AND extended cuts to let you choose. It seems DVD releases have done a much better job of this.

I like The Destroyer's cover but not The Barbarian's. How come they didn't just use the original poster?

Agreed. I am mildly nervous that we are getting this new cut. Some movies (like Jaws, Alien, Star Wars, and Apocalypse Now) don't do as well with the cut footage added back in. I think in most cases, the director and editor's initial instincts are correct.

A big +1 for that! Not many movies get better with added scenes, even though I think both Terminator 2 and The Abyss benefit from the director's cut treatment.

The Theatrical is Camerons preferred cut so he used the moniker Special Edition for both of them. Glad he chose to use seamless branching for the DVDs.
Actually would be nice if Universal could provide seamless branching for the three cuts to Conan the Barbarian since I'm most familiar with the Collector's Edition cut of the film.

Dammit, I still need to buy a new shelving unit for my movies!

From what I have read here and elsewhere, it seems to be the International cut with new added footage.

Agreed. Why is it that Blu-Rays seem to always only include the extended cuts, if they exist, over the theatrical versions? I know there are a few exceptions, but I always try to buy the theatrical cuts of films because, frankly, they're generally better! Movies like Troy, Underworld, the Good the Bad and the Ugly, and many others only have releases for extended/director's cut and it keeps me from buying those discs!

Pick up the theatrical cut HD DVD of Troy. It's great. Rip and remux if necessary.

Back on topic: I don't mind which cut of Conan the Barbarian is released. Most of the extended material doesn't harm the film much. Seamless branching would of course be preferable.

What is wrong with the Extended Cut of Troy? It adds a nude scene of Diane Kruger for crying out loud.

I have both cuts with the theatrical on HD DVD and both have their pros. The theatrical cut has better pacing whereas the director's cut has some great missing scenes thrown back in.

I don't hate the extended cut, but I prefer both the score of the theatrical cut and the color timing. The pace is also better, and I don't like all the graphic violence of the extended cut. As HD Goofnut says, both cuts have their merits. I think the same about Conan.
