Ah, didn't know about those. The previous Optimum disc was Region B though, so that will presumably be the case again.

I have The Fog from them and it's also Region Free. Some have complained that it didn't look good but I found the transfer quite good considering it's a 1980 film and I'm happy to have it in my collection. Let's cross our fingers that They Live is also Region Free for us North American folks...

This is great news! I hope it means that they will be re-releasing the Fog, too!

I agree. It still looks fairly shitty at times, but no way is it an upconvert.

I have the Italian release, and the picture quality is quite good. But the bad thing about it is that it has zero extras. Not even a trailer. Plus it doesn't have English subtitles (only Italian). But I doubt that the picture quality will disappoint you, for a 20+ year-old movie.

This UK release will almost certainly have some nice extras. The same extra features from the Optimum DVD and the 2008 Blu Ray release of They Live: Audio Commentary with Carpenter and Piper, trailer, mini documentary plus some interactive game. Maybe they'll add even more extras. Even though it will certainly be better than the original cancelled Blu Ray, which was an upscaled SD, I actually have some doubts that the picture quality will be better than the Italian release.. In the end, I will buy this release as well, even if only for the extra features, since it's one of my very favorite movies.

Optimum seems to share some masters in common with Carpenter movies shown on HDNet Movies in the U.S. (oddly enough the disks came out and the movies hit the airwaves around the same time); The Fog looked similar on both, and though Escape from New York was an upconvert of sorts on BR it has the proper color timing that the U.S. disk doesn't have (and it shared a color timing other dvd versions didn't have), They Live looked really good on the station so if my theory is correct it should look really good.

By the way, how do the administrators of this site know that it's region free, since it's listed that it's region free on the movie's page? What is their source? And does anyone know where blu-ray.com got the picture of that case. It looks to be the thicker, DVD thickness European case. It isn't on Optimum's homepage. Or amazon.co.uk. Maybe they also have the info about the extra materials. If anyone knows this source, please post it. I want to know for sure whether this Blu Ray will have the extra features the first, Blu Ray had before they pulled it off the shelves. If it doesn't have the extra features, I don't need to buy it, since I have the Italian version.

As far as I can find out the cover is from the 2008 scheduled release of the Blu. That was postponed and had playback issues (it played at 24fps instead of the 23.976fps) it was suspossed to and it was an up-convert. I'm not sure if that version had a UK release (I think it did, it was before my time lol) or if this is new version. But as Pro-B mentioned earlier this should have a new transfer.

Is it me or do Optimum constantly cancel/change release dates for their Blu-ray releases?

I knew there was something fishy after the preorder didn't come up on amazon's results after you typed "They Live" in the search field. The direct link that was on this site for the pre-order worked though. Very weird. And Optimum's website sure doesn't help. It says there that it was available on blu ray for years now.

Pro-B, do you know if this will be back on Optimum's slate at some point? Seems strange that they'd prep a new master and then cancel it. Between this and Rolling Thunder though, I don't know who's minding the shop over there.

How come all these sites including Optimum's own store list the Blu Ray as if they have it in stock and that it can be ordered (not pre-ordered)?

http://www.optimumdvdstore.com/film.php?id=837

http://www.imusic.dk/blu-ray/5055201...e-blu-ray-disc

http://www.cdmarket.eu/movie-they-li...bluray/3882982

I even found an eBay auction:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/They-Live-...#ht_739wt_1139

Is this out or what?
