I believe he is referring to Best Buy who is the largest seller of BD's of any B&M store, probably any store period online included. I would assume Circuit City is also in that group but not nearly as large, but larger than Target and Wal-mart in terms of HD sales.

Glad to hear that you dog is doing fine. I bet the Vet told you to take your dog off of Maya's Christmas diet as part of a long term wellness program. My dog had a similar issue and he is now on strict pet food rations. He hates his new health food but he is much better as a result. By the way, thanks for all the great Blu-ray news and your hard work. This is truly an awesome time to be a Blu-ray supporter. |

On that note, how was Amir involved in getting CJPlay in trouble, and how did Amir obtain the real names of some of our insiders here?

I really hope Toshiba are big enough to admit their defeat and officially declare HD DVD dead within a near future. However, another scenario could be that they won't declare HD DVD dead ever -even though Universal and Paramount are releasing on BD- to keep confusion among new HD consumers, since Toshiba still makes money from DVDs. Then it's up to the big retailers to pull the plug on HD DVD. In either case, I hope the retailers realizes what's best for them and stop stocking HD DVD shortly after CES. The retailers won't make much money from digital downloads.

This is what I am most worried about at this point. For Toshiba to admit defeat would create many "window seat jobs" amongst the Toshiba HD DVD executives and so they may keep the product alive to protect their jobs.

Owners of hd dvd are less important to promote than new adopters to hd.
The people who bought hd dvd are more likely to purchase blu-ray as they are already fans of hi-def, and aware of the benefits of hd over standard dvd. Last edited by richard lichtenfelt; 01-07-2008 at 06:12 AM. |

I know this was said a thousand times here already but please let me extend most sincere thanks to the BDA insiders, Paidgeek, Talkstr8t, Maxpower, Kjack, Penton for the support they offered us along this long and pretty dramatic ride! Kudos to you gentlemen!
Special thanks to the moderators of this forum: you guys are great and did an excellent job of keeping the red trolls at bay allowing us to communicate here, share our joy, discuss opinions, etc. And of course we all need to thank the thousands and thousands of lurkers who are not even registered on this forum, but who had an open mind to understand the difference between this fine forum that for most of us has become quite an integral part of our daily lives, and a site like AVS. We all won! And my big welcome to those who will be joining us from the other side! |

Question to insiders:
At CES, Toshiba's execs were conspicuously missing. For instance, Sony and Panasonic sent their chairmen to give presentations. However, Toshiba did not even have Mr. Fujii, the person who's generally considered the driving force behind HD-DVD. In fact, Japanese news is reporting that Mr. Fujii cancelled his trip. I believe it is very unusual for a corporation the size of Toshiba to not have a single person from headquarters at CES. Are there any rumblings in the industry regarding possible "new directions" Toshiba is considering, maybe without Mr. Fujii? ![]() enjoy gandalf ![]() Last edited by gand41f; 01-07-2008 at 05:46 AM. |
