I don't think silence is evidence of anything. However, I can't see how they could possibly think there is a future in their folly. It's over and they know it. They are just going to look for a respectable way out.

Calm down, don't get so defensive, geezz you're acting like WB just gave your format of choice the death slap.

Default Paramounts coming back quicker than I thought

It was also unclear yesterday whether the other studios backing HD-DVD would change sides, although it is understood Paramount has reserved the right to switch its backing to Blu-ray.

Welcome back soon traitors. Coming back with their tail between their legs. Probably issuing a statement that says " uh yeah....we always knew Blu-ray was superior, but Bill wasn't a good lover so were back."

Well both our facts collaborate perfectly so I still don't understand what you're trying to prove.

There was another post about this already. I thought this was an interesting read none the less. Michael Bay did say that it would be soon that we would see Transformers on Blu. Nice to see they had an opt out in their agreement.

What happened to the HD DUD wet dream claim of Disney support? I remember the DUD boys at AVS actually starting threads of "WHEN" Disney comes to support HD DVD. Even if Toshiba did approach Fox, interesting how Disney is not even mentioned in all of this gossip.

One of the things that was mentioned a lot by some HD DVD supporters was that Disney helped developed the HDi technology used for HD DVDs interactivity. Though I have never seen anything confirming that.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that one. I'm not saying it won't happen, I just don't believe that Paramount will jump back to the blu-ray side all of a sudden. I'm not sure of the arrangements of their contract with Toshiba, and what they would have to do to get back out of it.

Having said that, I hope I'm wrong on this one, and I hope they do come back to blu-ray sooner than later. I've been wanting to see Transformers on blu-ray since they first announced it, and then they pissed me off by taking Toshiba's bribe and cancelling the blu-ray release.

I think Universal is better poised to come on over to the blu-ray side. As far as I know, they don't have any contractual obligations to stay with HD DVD. Hopefully, it won't be too long before they're both back on our side, but I won't be expecting anything else major to come along for awhile.

...Although an announcement at CES declaring at least neutrality, or better yet blu-ray exclusivity, from either of these two studios would be just oh-so-sweet. I guess we can hope for the best, but personally, I'll won't be expecting such an announcement by either studio just yet.

There's no way that a company as big as Paramount will lock themself in a contract without exit strategy. We just didn't hear the whole detail of the contract.
Paramount is calling the shot here not Toshiba they can just say no thanks. It's probably written in a contract somewhere that if the sale of the content is not what they're expected they can get out. Otherwise they'll end up loosing millions.
After friday's news I don't think they'll be that many poeple buying HD-DVD movies now.

Paramount never had confidence in HD-DVD since the beginning... if they did, their contract wouldn't say "18 months only". Think about it, if Paramount really believed the HD-DVD is the best... their contract should say "forever" or something... they switched for the money, with every intention of coming back to Blu or neutral after the 18th month. They probably guessed that HD-DVD had 18 months to go... which was way off... HD-DVD had considerably less...
