Y'all are gonna hate me for this but I think this was a very nice looking 3D Blu, despite my earlier suspicions based on theatrical reports. At least, it looked very nice on my Panny. Really no pop-out to speak of but in many scenes there is a very nice delineation of depth. Much better conversion job than Thor and Clash got and a nice addition to my collection.

I also can have an easy time believing that HD Video is probably a very natural choice to convert to 3D as opposed to grained-film. Maybe thats why I thought the film looked fakey/cheap in the original HD Video theatrical exhibition and looked fantastic in 3D (as though the HD original was an unfinished product on its way to 3D, as it were)

We had some relatives visiting and needed a couple more pair of glasses, so bought this new starter set. The new glasses weigh in at 2.1 ounces versus 2.7 ounces for the old ones and the lighter weight is very evident when wearing the glasses, they're more easy on the bridge of the nose. The temple pieces have an accordian shape that helps the glasses to stay snug without squeezing the head like the old glasses. The temple pieces are not adjustable for smaller heads like the old glasses. The glasses are rechargeable, they charge via USB and there's a small rubbery cover that is popped loose to access the port. It doesn't stay in place very well, that's my one gripe about the glasses. That and even at 2.1 oz. they do tend to get a bit uncomfortable by the end of a movie. But they are an improvement over the original glasses.
As far as the movie goes, I had read some bad reviews and wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. The 3D doesn't have much in the way of in-your-face moments, but it did enhance the viewing experience. I thought it was well done considering it wasn't filmed in 3D but was converted in post-production. The storyline was typical Narnia, (the Narnia trip is sort of an escape from WWII Britain), but it is different enough to stand on its own too. I watched it with my daughters (15 and 17) and they really enjoyed it as well. I think it's a great addition to our 3D collection ![]() |
