The first looks off, definitely. The second's new coloring allows the viewer to see more detail, and the third has far more detail and looks more natural than it's blurry theatrical counterpart.

OR, for those who don't give a crap, buy it and be happy and leave alone those who do give a crap and let them rightfully make their displeasure heard without the constant backbiting.

I will take detail over a new color timing any day of the week. It is the main reason to buy films in HD on physical media. It seems studios redo color timing on purpose to let people know the film was remastered. If colors are all thats important there are the theatrical and dvd editions. Color isn't important? Of course it is, as is clarity! It all is important. That's why film fans love HD because it is supposed to be the most accurate representations of the films that we love. To mess up any part of the picture and go around touting how BD is perfect picture and sound is an absolute lie. If you ask a premium price, you need to have a premium product. Lord of the Rings is not an old title. There's no reason to have any mistakes on these titles. |

A lot of people here know that when a new release or re-release is being prepped for blu, a new transfer is made, apart from the obvious re-issues when being moved to antoher studio, or Deluxe re-issues (Warner with Kubrick, Cuckoo's Nest and such). Well, technicians are involved, with, sometimes, the director, or the Director of Photography, or both, or not at all, or a "visual consultant". Point is, people are involved, and people have different opinions and taste. So, a transfer a couple of years down the line will probably look different, because different people are involved, technical and creative. Detail is as important as color and contrast, so we can only hope that those people will pay attention to everything. Deatil isn't the only thing that matters on blu-ray. That being said.... I looked at the comparisons and it's just my opinion, but I think the theatrical editions were a bit too red to begin with. And let's not forget that we can all tweak our own displays a bit warmer or cooler, so there. By the way, I got the shipment notice yesterday, so that means I'm getting this probably next weekend already. Woo-hoo!!! Last edited by fpas; 06-10-2011 at 09:34 PM. |

Well said Strevlac. ![]() While I can find that we all will have different opinions here on this forum such as: I like it's color, or I do not like that color... I find it baffling that people still throw around such phrases here. ![]() . Last edited by Duffy12; 06-10-2011 at 09:36 PM. |

One potential problem I see is the color timing of the first film looks different than the last two. From the screenshots it also appears to have more detail making the latter two films look inferior. If it is a box set you want there to be some consistency.
From what I have seen I would love that they release these seperately and I will pick up the first title and wait till the 2nd two get remastered. |

Are all of you people blind? It's not green, it's teal and teal blue. And so what if snow does'nt look like that? How many films have you seen where certain things are a color that they really aren't? Damn. I better throw out my Half-blood Prince BD because of the coloring.
This is why there is backbiting. There's so much outrage over a handful of screenshots that people are irrationally trying to attribute the problems they see to the entire transfer. Has it occurred to many of you that the scenes the screens are from may look much better in motion? |
