Watching Rio Lobo from Target right now and it looks very good. Sharp, great color saturation and I see some film grain too. Keep em coming if they all can look this nice.

Who the heck in charge of the cover art? If they make the lettering just a little bigger, it will obscure John Wayne's picture entirely.

They should have gone with the poster art, which is great.

My brother took a copy of the Target ad I printed off of Target.com into WalMart this morning and got it price matched for $10.00! Not Bad!

I read the Rio Lobo Blu-ray Review on site and I disagree. I have always really enjoyed this movie. I watched it Saturday night and enjoyed it again. I wasn't really impressed by the transfer but it is superior to the dvd.

the review seems pretty harsh for sure.
I think the pq is better than 2.5, but 3.0 is probably as high as it should go.

Yeah, I'd say the PQ is a 3, it's decent enough, but not near as good as Big Jake. But I have to agree with his overall rating for the movie, it's well down my list of favorite John Wayne movies. The acting does come across as everyone being on cruise control and in the mindset of "let's get one more John Wayne Western on the market". I was going to pass on it, but when it dropped to $10.49 said "ah, what the heck, why not?". I've spent more and got less.

I'm watching this movie and so far I think the PQ is 2.5-3.0. Watchable. I've never seen the movie before and although it's not a stinker, I think Rio Bravo is far better. Next will be the Big Jake Blu-ray. I picked up McClintock on DVD the other day and watched that. That was a an excellent movie and I hope that makes it out on Blu-ray.

All I know is the PQ of this and Big Jake is superior to True Grit and at least for these newer releases someone left the damn DNR botton alone. True Grit is waxier than it should be, but they used the identical HD transfer for the bluray as used on the dvd from 2007. True Grit easily could have looked better with the existing transfer and less digital manipulation.

Watched this the other night. Not my favorite as Duke said, but enjoyed it none the less. Big Jake up for viewing tomorrow which is one of my favs, a rousing good time. As far as Rio Lobo goes, the only perfromance I would knock would be Jennifer O'Neill's. Very painful to watch ... third movie in her career.

Damn straight. They don't have a clue obviously. Anything would have looked better than that, even this crude job ....

There was a bit of dirt in the beginning of the movie, but overall I am very happy witht he PQ. I still need to buy Big Jake, good to read about the good PQ.

I finished the movie and found it utterly forgetable. I mean it felt like pretty much everybody involved just phoned in their performance. Very lackluster all around. And now that I'm watching Big Jake, which so far is a MUCH better movie as well as significantly better PQ, I would definately grade Rio Lobo's PQ as a bonifed 2.5. Big Jake's PQ is impressive in light of what I saw with Rio Lobo.

Big Jake is a much better movie with a great supporting cast. One of my favorite Wayne flicks and yes the PQ is much better.

It was because John Wayne had three GREAT films with the word Rio in the title, I those films are not a true trilogy as well.
I'm with you; it's neat to have several unrelated "Rio" movies sitting on my shelf, all starring Wayne and directed by the legendary Hawks and Ford.

After finally grabbing El Dorado, I need Rio Lobo (as unremarkable as it sounds) to complete both my Hawks/Wayne collection and the unofficial Wayne "Rio" trilogy.

Does anybody know why the price remains so high on this?

It might be out of print because they're selling it in a double-feature with Big Jake these days:
