Seems all you do is complain about Lucas.

Ying and Yang I guess. To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction.

Perceptions can be funny, can't they? You'd actually be hard-pressed to find examples of me complaining about Lucas but I'm one of those UOT fanboys so obviously I must spend my days mindlessly bashing Lucas.

indeed

I heard GL is planning on INCLUDING the Holiday special as a hidden (similar to in the Lost BD collection) bonus "disk 10" of the BD set only in the complete saga collection - but will make it a "special edition" to include changes he originally intended - namely by improving special effects and digitally replacing Chewbacca and his family with Jar Jar and his family (Jar Jar of course being middle-aged by that time in the Star wars timeline, but still no less mischievous)! Also the voice of Boba Fett in the cartoon will be changed from the voice similar to the UOT to the New Zealand accent. Supposedly he wanted to do the accent all along but they just couldn't find anyone in the studio from New Zealand.

It's already on its way. The way George Lucas always intended it to be. With the separate release that its success has always warranted.

STAR WARS THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL - ENHANCED EDITION TM
FINALLY COMING TO BLU-RAY NOVEMBER 17TH, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: One of the most requested Lucasfilm releases ever: Star Wars the Holiday Special - Enhanced Edition TM arrives on Blu-ray. Fans worldwide will be able to pre-order in late September for $29.99 US $34.99 Canadian. Star Wars the Holiday Special - Enhanced Edition TM will also be available as a digital download.

An exclusive autographed edition limited to 1,978 units will be available through http://shop.starwars.com/. Signatories include: Ben Burtt, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Carrie Fisher.

The first 100 orders placed will also receive a double sided collectors postcard set featuring concept art by Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston.

Star Wars the Holiday Special - Enhanced Edition TM features the highest possible picture and audio transfers. This release has been substantially re-edited and remastered by Lucasfilm legend Ben Burtt. Star Wars fans will be excited to learn that several minutes of all new digital visual effects have been created for this version: including the replacement of previous visual effects shots originally lifted from Episode IV: A New Hope. Exterior shots on the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk have been upgraded to reflect its appearance in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The variety segments have also been updated to enhance their appeal to a contemporary audience.

Included with Star Wars the Holiday Special - Enhanced Edition TM is a bonus disc containing more than three hours of special features. Including; deleted scenes and alternate takes, 'Fallen Empire' a 50 minute long documentary containing rare footage, plus cast and crew interviews, many of whom speak candidly about their thoughts on the original special.

Three 8 minute production featurettes have been produced especially for this release:

- 'Inside Nelvana' A visit to the Canadian animation studio during the production of 'The Faithful Wookiee' animated segment

- 'A long time ago' A retrospective on the TV variety shows of the 1970's.

- 'Fabricating fuzzballs' On the challenge of designing and building Chewbacca's family.

Also included is a 48 page book 'The Making of the Holiday Special' showcasing extensive behind the scenes imagery. Further information regarding related merchandising and promotional materials to follow.

---The original, unaltered Holiday Special will be included as a "bonus feature" on a third disc. It was taken from the best source elements available from deep within the Lucasfilm archives, a VHS recording off live television in 1978.

You, my friend, are the man.

I thought I needed to purchase the complete saga bd set when all I was really interested in all along was this - you have saved me some serious scratch!

Oh, I know. I saw it on another board back on April 1st too. I just thought it was fitting and pretty funny.

I agree with you 100% here. And this is why this Blu-Ray set won't sell anywhere near what it would have been capable of. Fans are getting fed up with being "milked" for their cash all the time with all the releases. They go out and spend their cash on something only to find out 5 minutes later another release pops up with something different included. Fans are starting to get wise to George's marketing and many will hold off to see what is around the corner or until the sets are reduced in a sale.

If it turns out that the OT is the same transfer as the 2004 DVD set, then more will just stick with the HD versions already available as they won't look much better. Luca$ could have easily guaranteed that this would be the biggest selling Blu-Ray release by including the Original unaltered versions remastered in HD. Another no sell for many is the special features on the extra disc. Almost 3 hours of docs about spoofs and a costume group? There have been hell of a lot of head scratching about these choices. Then there are the making of docs that will most likely be old laserdisc transfers ( if George says that restoring the original movies is too costly then do you really think he would spend any money on a new scan on the original 16mm reels for these docs, plus one was shot only on video tape anyway). Most people will already have these docs from the 80's. Then there are the deleted scenes. These will most likely end up on youtube anyway. So where is the incentive for anyone apart from the hardcore fans to buy this set? What happened to them scouring the Lucasfilm vaults and finding loads of unseen stuff?

Many are not going to get this set because they now that a few years time there will probably be an ultimate set and then the 3D versions

And why do you keep saying that you know these films will look great? Unless you have been able to see an advanced copy or some inside information that they have had a new transfer you can't keep harping on that you know they'll look great. No one apart from those who have seen them can.
I think it's just the opposite. It's the hardcore fans who know every detail of all the editions and think "their childhood has been raped" by Lucas not issuing the original theatrical versions of the OT and who have already seen all the extras and are willing to search the web and YouTube for all things Star Wars who might not buy the set (although I think most will buy anyway, if only to be able to complain about it).

But the general public, at least the part of the public that either already has or is willing to buy a BD player, will buy this in droves, especially if the reviews are good. The general public won't notice if Han shoots first or not or if a lightsaber is the wrong color. The general public doesn't know anything about a "2004 transfer". If it turns out to be a lousy transfer and the reviews are universally bad, then sales will not be quite as high, although preorders are supposedly quite high for this. (And I don't know what you mean by "stick with the HD versions already available". Did you mean "stick with the DVD versions already available"?)

What's also interesting is to look at the Amazon rankings. We don't know over what period Amazon ranks titles (is it today? last 24 hours? a week? a month?), but the complete trilogy is #40 in Movies/TV, the OT is #998 and the PT is #4692. So it definitely looks like most people want the whole thing in spite of the fact that the PT by itself isn't selling well. And considering how long the preorder has been available, #40 isn't bad.

You're crazy. The amount of disgruntled fanboys is nowhere near significant. First time on high def in the best quality ever seen in home video, it will not only sell well, it will probably be the best seller on Blu-ray to date.

I agree, and also have no problem pouring money down for this set, as I skipped the ol' DVD release. So I say, let's enjoy 'em, although I know some people won't. Doesn't matter to Lucas anyway.

Lucas has hinted in the past that he will release future, more definitive editions of the six Star Wars films on a next-generation home-video format

How many more times Lucas ?

How many times are you gonna watch the same films again and again and again ..

Fanboys are fans that are currently in love with the PT and are against everything associated with the UOT. Original fans are first generation fans that actually saw the films in the theater in 77,80 and 83 and were old enough to understand and comprehend them ALL at THOSE times. If someone was not that age/ from that generation or era you will never see Star Wars/ESB and Jedi as we do. And no I also do not think it will set any "records" for sales. I think you would be suprised at the number of people that only love the UOT.

Why am i crazy? I'm just being realistic. I didn't say that it wasn't going to sell well i said that it won't sell as well as it possibly could have. Yeh, the fanboys that will buy anything with the Star Wars name attached to it are going to rush out an buy it, but just look around the net and you'll find a lot of comments from people showing their disinterest. It isn't just the "disgruntled" fans that aren't interested in buying it. Now i'm talking about the full set here and not the individual trilogy ones.

Heh, nice cover. Kinda like when the politicians claim they "created or saved" x number of jobs. No way to ever know, but maybe it wouldn't have been as bad had their horridly expensive program not been passed.

This set will be successful and that's all that matters. A tiny subset of vocal fans on the interwebs aren't significant in the big picture. The vast majority of people buying this set just don't care which version is released, UOT, latest edit or whatever. The amount of hardcore dedicated fans from the 70's and 80's is almost certainly a tiny tiny number. And while some subset of those will grumble about it, most of them are going to buy or get gifted this BD release anyway (though most won't admit to it). Individual trilogy sets will sell better than bundles for the simple fact that they're cheaper and cheaper always results in higher sales. Following previous franchises, individual releases will certainly follow.

Keep wishing. As long as people are free-thinkers, the debate will never end. That is, until Mr. Lucas capitulates. I'm happy to continue the debate in the meantime.
