Umm, how are those any more legitimate than any of the earlier ones?
Nicanor posted this a few hours ago: Based on that, I'd say he's still waiting for the retail box to ship. I'll leave it to you to figure out where his screenshots are from. |

Having regraded the first half of the film however, I have another point of reference. The colours are far better without that strong green tint. If you don't believe me, go and check the video comparisons I posted up on AVSforum (one of the mines of moria, one from when gandalf arrives at Hobbiton) but of course your mind is already made up, as you've made abundantly clear from your numerous posts reiterating the same thing, that the film looks fantastic, green tint and all, so my words are most likely falling on deaf ears. EDIT: Looks like we're going to have wait a little longer for the official screencaps from reviewers. No point debating what's better when we don't know for certain what we're getting. Legitimate Sources should be limited to those known to be actual legit reviewers. If you wanted to branch it out a bit further maybe you include screengrabs from those who post pictures of the actual WB boxset and discs. |

Well...it's hard to get used to the colors in your screenshot. Just one more demonstration what snow would look like if it appeared neutral white >>> ![]() |

I stopped using those two as reference quite a while back. Recreating either of those two colour-wise would require far more time than I have to spare. My reference point is now the high quality 1080p encode of fellowship of the ring minus the green tint. |

As usual, you are spot on with why the original coloring worked to define the separate parts of Middle-earth. Cautious optimism is the best way to go, given the fact that these are the blu-rays I've waited for ever since High Definition came into being. I WANT to love the look of these films as much as I love the story and how the films looked when I first saw them. Couple this with the fact that this now seems to be the director and the DP's desire, which means it won't change if I like it or not. I am going to try very hard to enjoy this release as much as I have been expecting to. |

Nobody is mentioning the fact that this is apparently Peter Jackson and DP Andrew Lesnie choice. Is this a George Lucas thing, where you are upset because you don't think directors should tinker with their films later or are you all just ignoring this detail?
I personally only get upset about questionable masters where the studio has not had hands on input from the filmmakers. Last edited by Vendetta-akk; 06-15-2011 at 05:13 PM. |

Sure, why not. You know, I hope that once you have the retail box in your hands and you sit down to view the movie without any external reference points, you'll come out of it thinking "OK, that wasn't nearly as bad as I expected." Our color perception is malleable, and it's a good thing.
