AT ALL.

You will then get comments about how PJ doesn't know what he is doing, similar to how James Cameron was getting those comments for Aliens (when he was right).

Well that's nice and all, but I'm not sure where you see the word "green" (or cyan or whatever you color OCD'ers call it ) in there
It's obvious there's new color grading. It's less obvious if the off-white color cast is part of the package.

Exactly

Or..as I saw someone state on this forum or the 'other', Warner is going to force PJ to keep his mouth shut not admitting there is an issue.

People are already setting themselves up for their next lame excuse.

Pathetic.

I can understand the passion, but personal insults are not allowed. Lets all try to remain civil in what is a very interesting discussion.

Thanks for the review, Ken.

Has anyone here pre-ordered this at a lower price than $63.99, which is what I will have to pay? I'm completely satisfied with that price.

Um... No.

Snow isn't green.
The sky isn't green.
Whites aren't green.

That's not a matter of opinion. If you don't believe me, walk outside and look at the sky. Remember what snow looks like. Look at something white and... golly, it'll look white (which means NOT green).

The colors on the blu-ray are WRONG. If nothing else, the fact that film #1 has a green tint to it and the other two DON'T should tell you THAT much.

I have a pre-order with BN.com for $41.99 (and free expedited shipping). Just finished checking and it is still in place (hopefully that helps steelers1 out a bit).

Here's a comparison of the Hobbit video blog footage to the blu-ray footage.

The Blu-ray screenshot is greener.

Really, so your trying to tell me that the vision of the director is wrong and that your vision is correct?

Also, Snow isn't actually always white. Coming from someone who lives where we typically have snow on the ground for 7 months a year, it takes on a whole lot of different shades. I've seen it on many occasions be very, very close to what is seen in the screenshots in the various reviews out now.

Also, the sky isn't always a crystal sky blue either. It changes based upon the time of day, the season and the weather.

Edit: Again, disagree with the color choices all you want, but I cannot believe that some of you are continually trying to say that you know better than the director in regards the the color choices he wanted to make.

Watch the movie Minority Report. It has a very unique color palette, too.
In which those colors didn't match what was in the real world either.
Those colors by YOUR DEFINITION are wrong too.

Yet I don't seem to recall ANYONE making the argument you are making here.

Movies do not and HAVE not always had a color scheme that matches what we see in the real world.

Plenty of films do this and yet I dont see you screaming in those cases.

The colors in Lothlorien are wrong in the TE too. Cate Blanchett doesn't really have an outline of white around her.

The complaint isn't that the snow doesn't look like it would look like in your back yard, it's that it doesn't look like it originally looked. In the original it did have a crisp white appearance, that's no longer true. The new green tint is overbearing in these scenes and changes it drastically compared to how it was originally presented. The fact that a neutral white transition screen is now green is indicative of how greatly the grading has been altered from how it was originally.

The color timing has been changed, and changed very drastically, from the original theatrical presentation. If this is how the color timing always was there wouldn't be any complaints about it.

The original had very carefully planned color biases depending on the specific scene, mood, and location. Watch the entire color featurette linked earlier in this thread that explains it perfectly. This color timing has been greatly altered.

Here it is, linked in this post:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...ml#post4848629

By the way, excellent review Ken.
