The Theatricals are (or should that be the Theatrical Version is... *shrugs* grammar never was my strong point)
Not the Extended Edition.

Edit:
Though again, I completely understand how and why some people don't/won't like the color change (throw out the whole green tint, they still would be upset because it has changed from what it was).

From Mark Booth on HTF:

"The fade-to-white scene just before Frodo wakes up in Rivendell.

On the left, the screen shot of the scene from the extended edition DVD. On the right, the same scene from the extended edition Blu-ray."

I guess this is all sure sign of an ultimate set, but I sold my DVD set for this, and I am not waiting till 2016 for the ulitmate set, I will just double dip. Thankfully, I wasn't suckered into the theatrical editions tho!

Of course not, because people are not complaining about a creative decision on Jackson's part, but about an alteration of the original.

Very big difference there.

Actually, at this point in the story he is "Saruman of many colors":

"I liked white better." [Gandalf] said.

Saruman: "White!" he sneered. "It serves as a beginning. White cloth may be dyed. The white page can be overwritten; and the white light can be broken."

Somehow, still strangely appropriate in this instance.

do you have the director notes?

Default Subtitles?

I just got the ''confirmation'' from the customer service of Warner Bros official web-shop, that the US LOTR EE blu-ray release contains the following subs: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, English, French, German, Hungarian, Latvian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish??? I really can't believe that there are two different US releases of this set, since ''Blu-ray.com'' and ''thedigitalbits'' state that the release has only English, Spanish and Portuguese subs. Is it possible that they, as an official WB web-shop, and all the other US web-shops (incl. Amazon) are misinformed about that basic information, which can mislead many customers ... I'm also waiting for the confirmation from Amazon ...

This has probably already been mentioned, but you can leave a message to Peter Jackson on his facebook page. All you have to do is "like" Peter Jackson, and you can leave a comment.

"STEVEN BEDDOE asked, "Will you have time to sift through 4,000 questions just to answer twenty of them?"

PETER JACKSON: Yes, I will."

My apologies, Ken. Given the prior discussion (perhaps it was a different forum) that Warner Bros. does not allow reviewers to use screen shots from the discs, I automatically assumed that you did not. My bad!

I have already started a new topic in the discussion area of Jackson's Facebook page. There were others there already discussing it.

Ok - that looks bad. I was 50/50 but now I'm leaning more towards holding off on this set. I've looked at numerous images on this thread, but who would've thought the shots that convinced me have no sky or snow in them... just the color itself.

The only subs available with the films are English SDH, Spanish and Portuguese. If there are others available, they would have to be the sort that only appear or engage when the native/parent language of the Blu-ray player is set to that language. (For instance, discs where Japanese subtitles are only available if the user's BD player is set to Japanese language.)

From everything the menus display, though, and everything I can access on the disc, the subs are limited to English SDH, Spanish and Portuguese. Hope that helps clarify.

Thanks for the swift reply Ken ...

So, this must be the case of a serious ''massive'' misinformation which could lead to some troubles, because every US web-shop that has subs info on this particular product's web-page has ''wrong'' subtitle list ... Or, there are two different US releases, which is almost impossible ...

Ok, I just went and saw GREEN Lantern.

I am pleased to report that I had absolutely NO PROBLEM whatsoever with the green in that film.

Which is why I can't wait to actually get the discs and watch through them myself. If the new color shift bother me, than boo-hoo on my part. But if I'm not bothered/like the new colors, than I've got a great looking transfer of a great film. The first theatrical presentation is not the be all end all of how the film should look.

While many of the complaints are entirely valid since the film has been altered, a lot of this hoopla seems to stem from a stance based on a blind purists principle. I can't stand that altitude and I find it often leads to hypocritical opinions (More BDs have been altered than people realize IMO)

Here's another comparison (you have to click the link). It's the same fade-to-white scene in Rivendell, this time comparing Blu-ray to Blu-ray.

Mouse pointer OFF the image is the FOTR extended edition Blu-ray. Mouse ON the image is the FOTR theatrical edition Blu-ray.

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/59025

The theatrical edition is definitely a bit too red/magenta. But it looks a lot closer to white than that puke green color.
