How soon will we see HD-DVD disappear will depend on retailers. If they still keep the players on their shelf the longer HD-DVD will stick around. Not everybody aware of the news about WB unless you're home theater lover.
I'm pretty they are going to slash the price like crazy and I feel bad for the one that will get one because of it and they will end up with Circuit city Divx. Are retailers allow to return stuff back to vendors? I wonder. |

I did see people returning HD DUD players at my local best buy.
I so wanted to hear the conversation at the customer service. I wonder how many will try to bring back players without the UPC (due to the 5 free movies) or how many people will try to return or exchange open HD DUDs. Looking about though the open box HD DUD players was about the same (3 or 4) so I think they are putting this stuff in the back and have plans for dealing with them. (Or they don't want people to know just how many open box HD DUD players are in house.) -Brian |

As long as it still sells, they will stock it. You can still walk into a BB or whatever and buy xbox, and gamecube games. They dont just "ship" the stuff back. The sections will get smaller, but it will still sell to a niche crowd, and as long as they make money on it, they will sell it.

A little of the subject but some guy at the AVS forum asked if there was anyway that the retailers such as BB could still pick hd dvd over blu-ray thus forcing Warner and others to switch alliances. He hinted that they should all go to they're local BB and demand that hd dvd should be declared the winner due to pricing and consumer preference.
Wow thats the best so far. |

Its incredibly ignorant to say that "Warner only has 1 big name movie comming out in the next few months (Dark Knight) so this deal is meaningless"
Except that they arent exclusive for only the next few months....they're exclusive for the lifespan of Blu. Second, Its impossible to say months in advance which will be run-away successes and which will be bombs. That should be obvious to anyone. Then theres the catalogue, like someone mentioned a well done LOTR boxset would sell huge. Its the PERFECT type of movie for High definition. And their catalogue as a whole is the biggest. Finally when the biggest studio in hollywood picks a side, you know the domino effect will be undeniable. As far as retailers go, I would think they would be cutting or atleast scaling back their HDDVD orders. Its highly likely that HDDVD disc/player sales will drop and they'll have a hard time moving current stock. If we see any firesales anytime soon you'll know their getting ready to dump HDDVD entirely. Last edited by Luis_A51; 01-07-2008 at 06:44 PM. |

If I have to bet, some retailers will be marking HD-DVD related products as 'ALL SALES FINAL' within the next few months. Guess who wants to buy an 'open box' item on something that is effectively obsolete and for a single purpose only.
In the next few weeks, rightly or wrongly, I predict some will try to adjust their inventory levels so that they will not be 'stuck' with their HDDVD products...so I expect clearance sales. It will be great if Blu meet these needs by offering more BOGOs for everyone to build their libraries during this 'difficult' transition. ;-) |

I'm talking to the supervisor of the Home Theater area of my store about us getting lower suplies of HD to keep the storage space free for products that are going to last through Fall. He says that we can't do anything until corporate accepts Blu as the winner. Which probably won't happen until HD no longer has a single exclusive studio. Fair enough, but as it stands (with no new titles announced at CES and only what is already scheduled coming soon) there really isn't a reason to buy an HD DVD player unless you will spend the rest of your life watching only the titles that are on shelves now...
