Looks like The Rules of the Game is finally coming to blu-ray.
It's one I've been waiting for (I never got it on DVD) and I've been hoping Criterion will upgrade it soon. I don't know if this French edition is any indication of an upgrade though.

I wouldn't bank on there being English subtitles on this, the French generally aren't keen on providing foreign language subs. (traditionally anyway, maybe their stance has changed recently)

It's rumored to be a candidate for upgrade since there is a new print playing and the French br would tend to confirm that rumor.

I was surprisingly underwhelmed by the film. I much prefer Grand Illusion, but even that I'm not extremely high on (influence aside).

Think that stance is changing somewhat. I've noticed a much higher number of French releases with English subs nowadays. Think the studios have released the potential for $£$£$£.

If the Criterion sales does indeed start on 7/12, looks like the Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale won't overlap with it this year. Site says it expires on 7/12 at 2 AM EST. Maybe there will be a few hours of overlap, but probably not.

the one thing I always have noticed in the past with the Crierion 50% off sales w/ Barnes esp ONLINE is that usually the sale gets listed the Night/ Evening before the sale start date and they allow the early orders. I believe the very last sale some may remember that it hit ONLINE site first. (I doubt they would let the deal be combined though?)

Deepdiscount has slashed it's prices. Criterions can be bought for as low as $17.

I'm curious: has anyone ever not had a shipping or service issue with Deep Discount? I've never ordered from them because of the horror stories.

From what I understand they are getting better. I used to order a ton from them and didn't have problems, then it got bad. The last time I ordered from them it was fine. I just ordered the Keaton set and Our Hospitality, so we will see.

Although personally I'd rather order through Amazon. I've had a few bad dealings with Deepdiscount. Bad packaging and very long wait times. Still I was itching to get these titles. Too bad I just received Kiss me Deadly yesterday at 26.99

It has been a while, but the last time I ordered a single disc it came in a bubble envelope and the last time I ordered a box set or larger collection it came in a box. They might have changed their practices by now.
