I think that both of Nolan's Batman movies are lame, but The Dark Knight is just awful.

I'd say it depends on what you're expecting from "Begins". First, it has a notably lighter tone than "Knight", but it still has a very serious story. The villains of the piece aren't as twisted as the Joker, but they're still menacing in their own right. If you're looking for the same level of intense darkness presented in "Knight", then seeing "Begins" may not be in your best interest. It's an incredible film, to be sure, but "Knight" told a much more chaotic story.

And it has a Blu-ray transfer to match how terrible it is.

They saw it only because Heath died. That's why TDK made the money it did. Had he lived, it would've still been a hit, but nothing like it was. That much is evident in the above stated fact... not to mention, BB was a much better, tighter film.

Aside from Ledger's death, TDK has some EXTREMELY intense, and very effective moments. The pacing was a bit off, unlike Begins, but the great moments more than make up for it.

Ledger set the standard for the comic villain imo. Like it or not, I'm sure most of us size up Ledger to most comic villains these days, and they all fall short.

I consider both to be masterpieces. But TDK owes a lot to the success of Begins. I still remember being so hesitant after the shlock-fests of Schumacher's Batman films about Begins back in 2005, having no experience whatsoever with Christopher Nolan's work. But I saw it on opening day, and I was just absolutely floored. Especially with the bravura Tumbler chase sequence (which is one of the best car chase sequences ever). Really enthusiastic standing ovation at the end of that film. WB gambled with Nolan to resurrect the Batman franchise, and it paid off well beyond anyone's expectations.

In any case, definitely run, not walk, to see Begins!

More like excessive DNR, even on shirts. Only the IMAX portions look good.

Let's be honest here, the first good Nolan Batman film is the Dark Knight. Batman Begins is extremely overrated, boring, and convoluted. I kind of get the sense that only extreme Nolan fanbois, of which there are many now that are true blue kool-aid drinkers, would place this film side by side the Dark Knight, which at least had actual depth, great action, and good narative.

Both of Burton's Batman films are far better than this film as well. Burton was able to create an extremely moody, dark, gothic, noir landscape that was exciting. Batman Begins by comparison is completley mundane, and it doesn't even include good villains. The Scarecrow and Al Ghul's storylines in this film were pretty much total abortions. The potential of the villains in Burton's films were hanlded much better, even for a character like the Penguin. Bruce Wayne is even more interesting in his films. I'm just tired of this film being referred to like it's some kind of classic. It's not even close. It's one of those rare cases where the sequel completely over shaddows the first film.

Completely disagree. A good film is a good film. Kool-aid has nothing to do with it.

Begins is still for me at least the Batman movie I like better don't get me wrong they are both great but Liam Neeson as Ra's Al Ghul, and the whole Bruce as a kid are just too well done.

Begins is a really good Batman film. Dark Knight is a great film.

And the Tim Burton Batman movies are awful. The only good thing about either of his movies was Catwoman. Tim Burton's doesn't understand Batman at all and made him into a murderer. He made Tim Burton movies, not Batman movies. The best thing that can be said about them is they are better than Joel Schumacher's two abominations. Of course, that isn't saying much, since they were horrid.

And no, Heath Ledger's tragic death didn't make Dark Knight the third highest grossing movie of all time. It was the fact it had great word of mouth because it was an amazing film.

They are quite different films. TDK has some jaw dropping scenes, the Hong Kong scene was probably my favorite, I also liked the intro of the Batpod.

As a life long Batman fan, Begins has so many moments that made me geek out. So many moments in the film I could name the Batman stories Nolan used. The "backup" scene at Arkham raises the hair on my neck every time, one of my favorite parts from Batman Year One.

Many did not see Begins in the theater because of the bad taste left from Forever and Batman and Robin. Add that while Nolans film before Begins, Memento was fantastic, it did not make him well known. I know it tore it up when it was released on DVD.

TDK had a lot of interest because of Heath's death, but good word of mouth on how great the movie was and his performance. To say his death was the main reason is silly, the Crow did not make $500 million dollars and Brandon Lee died while filming it.

I also prefer BB. Neither of them are great movies but I wouldn't say they are awful either. My main problem is the weak Racheal Dawes character...in both films the character is underwritten and pretty boring. She doesn't come across as a real person, rather some geeks idea of the perfect, "attainable" woman. She's basically a cardboard cutout with no intriguing personality to speak of. It doesn't help that both actresses lack charisma. I prefer a strong, Hawksian female character.

Marion Crane would kick Racheal Dawes ass

Burton's movies are much more Batman to me than Batman Begins. Batman isn't only a character, it's also an atmosphere and the world of Gotham City. Nolan's Gotham City is Chicago. It should be referred to as such, becuase it certainly is not gothic in anyway imaginable.

And I find Burton's take on the character brillaint. Giving Nolan brownie points for being more "true" to the comic version is also kind of nonsense imo, because the jackoff Bruce Wayne is Batman Begins is nothing like the one from the comic imo. They're both takes on the same character with tweaks added. No take on the same character will be the same, this especially goes for the comic in droves.

I will also note that Nolan's films would not exist without Tim Burton. Burton's impact on the maturity and the dakenss of the entire franchise was profound. If that didn't occurr, the comic would be vastly different and people would still only connect Adam West with Batman in the pop culture at large.
