Default Laughable Best Buy employee...

So, I was at Best Buy yesterday. And, an older couple was looking at both Blu-ray and HD-DVD. And, I told them can I give you some advice. "Avoid HD DVD, come May Warner Bros. won't be supporting them anymore. And that the format will be on its way out by end of '08, and to go Blu."

So, the BB employee comes running over saying "Sony paid Warner Bros. 500 million to go Blu-exclusive."

I laughed at him and said "Ok, you must listen to the internet rumors."

Then he tried to buffalo them into the combo player. And, they were listening to him like he was the be all , know all in HD. Some chump 19 year old. Who didn't know sh*t from shinola. At that point, I said "Ok, gotta go. Good luck on your decision."

I get so annoyed going into these stores listening to people who work there who have no idea what they are talking about....

Yea, I have the same problem when I go to Gametop. I don't understand why people treat the employees of these stores like they are experts on the subject.

Haha, unreal. They were fine with payouts when Paramount did it, but now all of a sudden its a problem? I dont see where they are coming from at all.

And even if they did take money, so what. They took money TO GO BLU. So the fact remains they are Blu, whether they took it or not.

LOL

I feel like writing a letter to the authorities at BB stating that their sales persons try to dupe people into buying the wrong/bad products.

don't really know why payouts or buyouts are ever an issue? It happens everyday in the business/corporate world, It is just something for HD Supporters to complain about.....I think the term is actually called...BITTER ?

I have a link on this post with an interview with Warner. I wonder if any hd dvd fans that come here will see this. I'm sure if they do they will spin this. Just read some of the comments.

OK fine. Sony bought Warner. Doesn't change the fact that come June 1st you won't be able to get Warner on HD DVD(assuming it's even still around). Also doesn't change the fact that Warner titles are going to be delayed releases behind DVD and Blu-Ray. I'm just happy the salespeople in the BB I frequent are all Blu-Bloods.

Because they were the name tag that says "Best Buy" and customers see the tv advertisements that say they're the ones for "HD advice".

I get the same thing all the time. I know quite a bit about home theater installs and home theater equipment. However, when I go to a customer's house, apparently Best Buy knows everything and I can only hook up coax to the back of a tv

Their uniform alone should force them to support us.

I had a post about it earlier but I'm impressed with the BB staff in my area. Had a similar situation but the salesmen was very neutral. I'd rather see neutral salesmen then HD-DUD fanboi's.

On a side note it's been great seeing the reaction at work after the Warner swap. Lots of people have been asking me Blu questions. I used to be the lone Blu supporter and everyone sitting on the fence. I'm assuming the rest of you guys are starting to have similar convo's at work and school.

I work at Best Buy and there are things called Learning Centers that all employees must take. According to SOP, you may not sell out of your own pocket and if you didn't learn it from the learning center, you shouldn't be telling customers information. Now, being that I'm not an ignorant prick, I tell facts such as studio support, Nielsen ratings, and more obvious, the amount of BD displays vs. HD-DVD displays at Best Buy. I let the customer make their own decision. It's too bad there are mudslingers that give BB employees a bad rap.

I think more people on this site have become Blu-ray certified than actual BB employees.

The funny thing is who cares if Sony/BDA/The King of England paid WB to go Blu-Ray exclusive. IT HAPPENED. Come may Blu-Ray will be the only place you will be able to find WB titles regardless of any payment.

This is a non-issue. He is dumb. End of story.

No, I do not. In fact, there are currently no new learning paths for any HD format except for facts on both like 1080p picture, larger capacity than dvd, etc. And when people say that BB is one sided becasue of their endcap displays, they don't choose to put those up at random or because of a manager's bias. It's called a planogram that we must follow from corporate. Companies have paid to advertise there. Plain and simple

Hey Bunke101, any chance you can print some free business cards promoting blu-ray.com and "silently" insert them in the BDP boxes? That way if people have questions they can come here.

Even if Warner was paid $500M by the BDA to switch to Blu-ray exclusively, the only logical conclusion is that the BDA offered more $$$ than the HD DVD camp.

So, the HD DVD side are no saints (even if the speculation has any merit).

Thumbs down Scam caller last night

My response, "This conversation doesn't concern you until we say it does!"

A little rude, I know, but so was his interruption. I fight fud with fire.

Last night I get some guy calling for my brother on my phone number. over the years this happens from time to time for some reason. Not wanting to pass along information to scammers and telemarketers I tell them the same thing. "This is not "R's" number." I stopped giving my name because that is information they can use.

Long story short, he claims to be a detective McKenzie. Nice Irish name for someone who CLEARLY was Nigerian. The connection was horrible so I can only conclude he may have been a scammer from overseas. I suggested to this "detective" that he should use 411. He said I would be a suspect if I don't cooperate. Then he claimed he was coming to the house. "Fine, do that, no one is home! And you better have a squad car when you show up!" I finally get off the phone and page my brother to verify if he spoke to anyone. He did not. No one showed up at the house either.

I've had police call my house looking for donations. They always identify themselves first. They say the intro so much it often is said almost too fast to understand. NEVER fall for this BS.
