One (of the lesser) review was mentioning a dip in quality in the second half of the game ... Is that true?

Metacritic is infamous 85, infamous 2 83. This leaves me as to me it appears (so far) that In2 is superior in absolutely every way to its older brother.
Personally I'd rate In2 below In1. I don't like the rocket launcher/grenade spam, and the constant battles with the mini-bosses gets really old really fast. And even beyond that, none of the mini-bosses have struck me as fun to fight even the first time I did so.

Otherwise the game is exceedingly similar. The only thing I'd say is better about In2 is graphics.

Of course this is all opinion, but with how much I liked the first game I'm pretty disappointed in this one. The only reason I haven't quit completely is that the story interests me.

InFamous 2's travel powers are way better than inFamous 1. As Shin-ra noted on the last page, the
[Show spoiler]Ice Launch
and
[Show spoiler]Lightning Tether
make traversing any distance a breeze.

The power lines set up around the city are also much more useful in inFamous 2 than they are in inFamous 1. You rarely have to go out of your way to traverse from one location to the next, yet it still doesn't feel out of place.

Only two things I really don't like about inFAMOUS 2 are the electrified vertical poles which seem to REPEL you towards another hold when you jump directly at them and there's barely any background sound effects. I'm still not sure if that's a bug with the game.

The electrified poles are a waste of time. I used them 50 times to get the trophy and have gone back to doing my regular climbing. More fun, and not that much slower.

I like the electric poles... I think they're pretty cool. It's annoying when trying to jump onto one and Cole just starts climbing the building instead. I guess he shares your opinion of them.

inFAMOUS 2 is the first game in which I earned a platinum trophy. Yeah, if I wanna nit-pick, I'm sure I could find something to complain about (all UGC is clearly not created equal), but all-in-all, it was a very satisfying experience.

I did miss the sewer levels, though.....

That was so irritating. Glad that I have the trophy for that now and don't have to use those blasted things anymore

....unless I am forced to do so for some strange reason

Aww, no sewer levels? I liked those in the first one. It was annoying trying to get to some of them though. Man, I really need to finish this game.

You make it sound like it was a really hard trophy to get.

The poles aren't that bad but after I got the trophy I just used them to recharge...

My big problem with the electrified launcher pipes is that they're too short. You climb on one, and 90% of the time it doesn't even launch you to the roof, so it only saves you a minimum amount of time even if you didn't miss jumping it on the first try.

Every single one should have launched you up to the roof of any "typical" building (but they don't).

Try jumping from farther away. That seems to help me. If I'm really close to the pole when I jump, I seem to grab the ledges instead (even if I'm right in front of the pole) but if I jump from farther away, I'll usually get the electrified pole.

Travel feels identical to me in spite of the additional features.

Now if InFamous 2 had taken travel to the levels of fun I had in Prototype, then maybe I would sit up and notice. As is...meh.

If it never took any effort to get up, there's no punishment for hopping rooftops poorly and falling. Less separation with the ground, less uniqueness.

Finished my good play through.

I enjoyed most of it. Some of the larger creatures were a serious pain to fight and not any fun. Sort of like those big First Son conduit guys...such a pain in the butt...not difficult, just annoying.

I am glad that I rented it because once I platinum it, it'll be just like the first with hardly any replay value for me...though I did love the story (again, most of it) just like the first time.

My biggest issue with the story was that
[Show spoiler]Bertrand can turn into a 60 ft swamp monster
...are you kidding me? I would have been fine with
[Show spoiler]him having the ability to turn people into the monsters and some kind of power like Cole or Kuo or Nix.
..but
[Show spoiler]turning into a 60 foot beast
was just stupid imo.

Love the
[Show spoiler]ice launch, improved thrusters (hooray for them being relevant now) and tether
abilities, really makes getting around fun.

The blast shards are WAY too easy on this one. I had 294 already by the time I could get the last ability to home in on them.

The Dead Drops were really easy for the first 28...but I'm having trouble finding the last one. Going to have to go through the city and find it.

I'll start my hard play through tonight on evil and probably have it completely wrapped up tomorrow night, Saturday morning at the latest.

Also, I tried to connect to the UGC servers but it wouldn't let me

Within the confines of the story, which decision is correct is more ambiguous and philosophical. But certainly not selfish.
Well
[Show spoiler] I can kinda understand it. Yes, the RFI working is uncertain, but your talking about taking a chance that killing a few people (in New Marais) will save millions/billions from a plague or letting the plague ravage the globe and leave the earth to a few hundred thousand.

While no one knew if the RFI would work, they also had no idea how many carried the conduit gene or that it would kill every conduit world-wide.

To me it seemed like the choice was sacrifice Cole, Kuo, Nix, the Beast, and any other activated conduits in New Marais to potentially stop a plague that could potentially ravage the globe or let the plague kill everyone except the conduits John is able to activate.

It's not that ambiguous because either scenario could mean the end of the human race - even if you don't activate it there is no guarantee that there will be enough active conduits to prevent humanity from going extinct.

Taken that way, the higher choice is to sacrifice the few and hope it really does save the many.

[Show spoiler]Didn't John say he could feel the conduits? Which is how you find the conduit in the warehouse that he cures. Been a few days since I beat the game, so it's all a bit fuzzy at this point. In which case he'd know roughly how many there were to save. Which, in turn, was how Cole, in the ending, was able to find the conduits as he walked the Earth.

I found the last dead drop
[Show spoiler]back at the swamp where you start the game (its also where you score that "Back To The Bayou" trophy). It's near the buildings in the camp.

Today, the PlayStation Blog announced that Infamous 2, Sucker Punch's sandbox hero story, is now available on the PlayStation Network. The game can be purchased for $59.99 and anyone with a PlayStation Plus account can download a trial and play for 60 minutes before purchasing the full version. Trophies can be earned during this trial period, though they will only be "realized" once Infamous 2 is purchased.

Read IGN's Infamous 2 review to find out what we thought of Cole MacGrath's daring adventure in the troubled cityscape of New Marais.
