Default Microsoft: No HD DVD Xbox 360

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,14...1/article.html

Microsoft confirmed that there won't be an integrated Hd DVD Xbox 360 as rumored earlier for their Ultimate version. It could be a last minute change after the WB announcement. But we'll never know.

"Monday during an interview at CES in Las Vegas, Bell said Microsoft is taking a more agnostic view on how to serve up HD video. He said that it's up to consumers to make a choice between the two formats, not vendors.

"We'll let the market decide how they're most interested in consuming entertainment," he said."

Back away... back away... distance ourselves...ok.... good.

If he really truly believed that, then he'd make a Blu-ray add-on for the 360!

Yep. Like I said, it's really just about distancing themselves from the stench of HD-DVD failure.

Pretty much. The HD-DVD was a great first attempt at Hi-Def disc media but it seems to be going the way of Laserdisc after the coming of the DVD.

That's good news. As an Xbox 360 owner, my concern would be that if they were to make a system with HD-DVD built in, then they would want to start making games on HD-DVD for the extra capacity over the regular 360 game discs, which means for people like myself would be forced to buy the add-on to play games or to upgrade entirely to the new system, which I have no desire to do.

There have been too many changes to both the 360 and PS3 in their short life spans as it is, we don't need more at this point.

I think Microsoft won't put an HD DVD drive in there and I don't think they planned to. They'll just increase Hard Drive space to Download HD content, hence the Elite.
