It's my pleasure. To everyone who has said thank you to me for something or another in this thread, let me throw out one catch-all "you're welcome!" Just be sure to PM me when I drop the ball. As I mentioned to one member earlier this evening, I find feedback invaluable, whether it's positive or negative

And yes, I still find FOTR most enjoyable. It's an amazing movie and, much as I'd like to ensure I have the presentation Jackson intended me to have, I can't help but lose myself in the film, green tint or no. Like I alluded to earlier in the thread, I actually set up a separate calibration in which I dialed down the greens a bit. It isn't a perfect solution and doesn't fix things entirely, but it'll work for now!

I find the audio outstanding. The mix of dialogue, sound effects, and Shore's score in such an immersive experience is intoxicating IMO. That said, I have to admit to a slight bias as I adore the sound design and music in the trilogy. I'd like to think I can separate the technical quality of the lossless tracks from the visceral impact of the mixes, but I can't quite suppress my love of these films when focusing on their audio tracks

I will say this, though. If I was trying to show off my system, the LOTR movies are some of the first catalog films that would come to mind. I'd probably toss one of them in before most new theatrical releases actually. Hope that helps!

Strange it says "currently unavailable" on Amazon UK.

I've done extensive analyses of a variety of scenes, those where the tint is more obvious and those where it is not. As far as any objective analysis can confirm, it is always there. Even when Gandalf confronts the Balrog, red and orange-dominant as that scene is, difficult to perceive as the tint is, the green/cyan tint still affects the specific hues of the reds and oranges. Comparisons between the exact same Gandolf/Balrog shots in FOTR and TTT make the difference (and the presence of the tint) more clear.

To be clear: every scene will not look green. That is not how a slight green tint works. A slight green tint only affects the hue of the colors. The majority of blues still look quite blue, and the majority of reds still look fairly red. Even the greens as they're intended aren't suddenly overbearing. The tint is only apparent when a number of factors align to more readily reveal the presence of the tint.

Again, the tint is there, and it does appear over the entirety of the film. While it is not apparent throughout the entirety of the film, it is there. Peter Jackson did make deliberate color changes. If this is one of them, he and Lesnie applied a constant green tint over the whole of the film. The issue at the heart of this discussion is not the product of a selective, scene by scene adjustment.

Hope that helps clarify!

(Even so, yes, it is still notably superior to the theatrical transfer )
Thank you Ken

We probably won't hear anything from them about this green stuff until they can get rid of all the green copies.

Guess we'll see when the EE's are sold separately with none of the DVD bonus features.

Also i'm surprised this site doesn't have the $69.99 deal is up top on the "Most Popular Blu-ray Deals at Amazon" list.
Mainly because to be able to sell pre-orders thay have agreements with the studios to not get them to the people before the street date. All sellers have to agree to that to the best of their abilites.

Now Amazon being bigger they are a bigger target and have more to lose. But also being bigger can make them more efficient at shipping also.

To keep those agreements Amazon forces you to use two day shipping and expefited shipping is more reliable to guess when it will get there,

I'd guess it's some sort of Amazon UK glitch, which really isn't that unusual for them.

ATTN: Ken!

I've been reading more than posting, and impatiently waiting for my box set from Amazon.

I too just wanted to say a quick "THANK YOU!" I've enjoyed reading all of your reviews over the years (Watchmen comes to mind). I have an admiration for anyone that goes above and beyond. That is certainly what you have done with your LotR Extended review. It rises above many and is much appreciated.

I sincerely hope yourself and the other reviewers are compensated for your work in some way. You all do a fine, fine job.

I think I speak for many of us here, when I say this website is an invaluable plethora of resource and information. As we can see here, regardless of opinions, your review has thus far served as a great reference point for many.

I hope they do have to pay for a recall of the discs everyone is going on about - serves the studio right to have to foot the bill for new discs since they cheaped out so bad on this release.
It was all mastered in SD anyway, and quite frankly this is nothing compared to having 9 VHSes of very excellent bonuses in a DVD set.

Look, dont watch bonus features? Then there's no reason you should care what format they're on. Give them away or something.

That is what Amzon in the US says when they are out of stock and they have no date from the supplier when it will be availalble.

I would assume if it was pulled they would notify those that are expecting deliveries that have already pre-ordered

How are htey screwing us.

Who really cares they are DVD's. Most BD platyers upconvert and 9 times out of 10 special features are not they quality that need a HD transfer anyway.

They dud go out of their way to use the proper cases so all these extra discs do not really add much to the thinckness of the box.

My order from amazon shipped, also the order I had from Borders (which I tried to cancel) with the 50% off code shipped....and apparently it's going to take over a week to get from Sacramento to Arizona....last time I deal with Borders.

I don't care about DVDs, but I don't want to pay close to 30 bucks a film because WB can justify it with "HEY LOOK AT ALL THIS STUFF YOU GET!"
unfortunately, respect for their customers seems to be in short supply over at WHV. Not that they're unique in that regard... :cough: fox :cough:

Well, most movies that come out on Blu-Ray start at about $25-$30, some with few or no bonus features at all.
Also, these extended versions were about $30 each when they came out on DVD.

Hey, get with the times-- complaining about the recycled DVD's is SO last week. We're complaining about green tinting now, got it?

This green-tinting stuff is nonsense. I've got the UK discs and in-motion they're wonderful. The movies are overly manipulated colour-wise, imo, but that's the way they've always been. The titles are white. The skies are as you'd expect. There is a slight tilt towards green in scenes at the Shire but that's deliberate - Jackson obviously wanted the grass to look as green as possible. But it's so far removed from the panic about this image that I'm honestly wondering if it wasn't all a hoax.

These discs will figure on many of the lists of the year's best transfers. Relax, everyone. Jackson and co have nothing to answer for.
