i cannot believe all the hate for Foxx in this thread. the man's won the Oscar for a great performance in Ray, and was also rightly nominated for his work in Collateral. he also put forth very good performances in Jarhead, Miami Vice, and The Soloist. the man has a very good amount of acting talent, enough to rival Smith or Elba, and enough to stomp all over Djimon Hounsou (i am also shocked that anyone would really think that that actor would be a worthy choice to star in an epic production like this one) and his performance in the film should be one of the best of his career, since he's working with a top notch actor's director.

I agree. He has given consistently good performances. Let's not even discuss his new movie with Martin Lawrence...it's going to be a real stinker. But anyway, people are acting like they won't see it now just because he was casted. I think Tarantino knows better than us who fits the role in his script. It's funny to see people naming other actors who would have been better choices because IMO, QT has always been one of the best at getting an ensemble of big and little names that fit their roles perfectly.

I trust the expert.

yup. Foxx, like almost every actor working today, picks some rather iffy roles now and then, but the good ones he has done are very, very good, and Tarantino is a superb director of actors, among other things. you look at each of his films and the performances found in those for each particular actor or actress are among the best of their careers.

Tarantino knows what he's doing, and Foxx surely will too.

Well said. Foxx will be fine, I just hope Tarantino gets us a great product. He's a very hit and miss director for me, with the class he has assembled we know the acting is going to be good.

Man, I can't believe anyone would be worried that Foxx got the role. He's a great actor, and Tarantino would never have chosen him if he didn't think he could handle the part. At all. So anyone who is worried really shouldn't be. Plus, look at the cast so far: Foxx, DiCaprio, Waltz, and Sam Jackson? How could you not be excited about it? It's going to be great.

personally, he's all hit for me. IMO, Death Proof, his weakest picture, is a good film. Jackie Brown is a great film. Reservoir Dogs is a near-masterpiece, and Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and Inglourious Basterds are all definite masterpieces.

since all of his films have been heavily influenced by Leone and the classic genre the man made legend, i think his first film in that actual genre shall serve as his best film yet.

it's gonna be something else...

Death Proof has the most re playability for me. I've been a Tarantino fan for close to 18 years and I haven't watched any of his movies as many times as I've seen Death Proof. While it may not be a masterpiece and is very dialogue heavy at times, I still think it's the most fun to watch. With Reservoir, Jackie and Basterds right behind it. Pulp Fiction was never a favorite for me because of this disease it suffered from called Bruce Willis. Which is how I expect to feel about this new project and the Foxx. Since I have no love for Asian cinema or kung-fu movies its probably why I have only seen Kill Bill once and don't even remember much besides fountains of blood. But hey that's just me and I know I'm alone on that.

much appreciated.

but from looking at your sig, i do have to disagree with you on what i think QT's best film is, which is Kill Bill.

different view, but i dig it. i'm much younger than you must be (currently 21), but i've been a big fan of the director's since i developed a serious passion for cinema and funnily enough, Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds were THEE two films to introduce Samurai and and Spaghetti Western films to me. once i saw and LOVED those movies, i went back in time and watched just about all of the REAL greats (like Kurosawa and Leone, two icons who are now among my most favorite filmmakers).

Death Proof though wow, i like the movie and have seen it twice but i don't know when i'll see it again, if ever. for me, it's a very minor offering from the man. are you a BIG fan of the 70s grindhouse time it was homaging, or the cars involved in the production?

I'm 25, so I'm not much older then you but I first saw Reservoir Dogs when I was 8 years old and it first hit home video, lol. So I pretty much have seen every QT movie as they came out in theaters over the course of his career since Pulp Fiction. At one point I loved that movie but as my tastes changed, so did my disgust with that one trick pony Bruce Willis. I cannot stand anything he's in, so really without him I probably would still love Pulp to this day. I've seen a lot of asian cinema ever since Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette talked Sonny Chiba in True Romance. I decided to check those out long ago too and they just didn't do it for me. I've seen a lot over the past few years as well and have yet to like any of them.

I am a big Kurt Russell fan, as well as muscle cars and the classic movies with them, so that probably has a lot to do with it. I grew up with them so they remind me a lot of my childhood, and Death Proof fits perfectly into that genre. Zoe Bell is the ballsiest chick I have ever seen and her riding on the hood was just probably one of the most insane and amazingly crazy stunts i've ever seen. To me just everything about that movie is just oozing cool, so that's why I dig it so much.

yeah Death Proof is indeed one cool flick, and i definitely agree with your highlights of the film. i actually haven't checked out really any of the Sonny Chiba films, only the Classics when it comes to Asian cinema (at least the ones that have greatly inspired QT).

Willis...i've always liked him, but yeah, he doesn't have a whole lotta range, and i've never found him as convincing in the tough guy roles as others have. in terms of the leads of Pulp Fiction, he's definitely the least best of the bunch.

You're definitely not alone Wylde, I love Death Proof. I actually like it more than Planet Terror. Grindhouse is one of my favorite movies of the past ten years, and I'm really sad it underperformed and we didn't get to see another.

I loved Machete, that was probably my favorite of the three. I thought Hobo with a Shotgun was alright, but didn't love it like I was hoping to...

As for liking Death Proof more, I think it's because I like Kurt Russell and Rosario Dawson so much. Those two absolutely made the movie for me.

Never got around to seeing Hobo... Is it worth a blind buy on blu? I don't rent movies.

I actually hated Planet Terror so that was an easy choice for me.

Only if you like giant pieces of shit, with no plot or redeeming qualities at all. There was one hilariously trashy line but that was about it. But I mean it was about a hobo who's life goal was to buy a lawnmower and then chose murder instead.

[Show spoiler]"Do you know how I can tell I'm making you wet?"

I'm actually with Wylde, I don't really think it's worth buying. I won't be adding it to my collection, and I'm actually surprised by the praise it was getting. I mean, Machete and Grindhouse were fun, but I didn't find much in the way of redeeming qualities with Hobo with a Shotgun. If you ever happen to catch it on Starz or HBO, go for it. Otherwise, not really worth a purchase.
