Duggie, when you said the titles are white, that generally conflicted Ken's (and others) report, please read your earlier post. When people say "the green tint is there but it's not distracting" then I'm good, but there are others who says "there's no green tint" so that's confusing. But whatever, I'm not interested on who's right or wrong, like I said I just need to be sure. If you check my posts, not just in this thread, I'm not the kind that complains, never, if it's green for fact then fine, I'm not complaining or arguing, just interested to know the truth. But that's okay, I respect your opinion and appreciate your replies so thank you. Have a nice day.

There is a slight tilt towards green in scenes at the Shire but that's deliberate - Jackson obviously wanted the grass to look as green as possible. But it's so far removed from the panic about this image that I'm honestly wondering if it wasn't all a hoax.

These discs will figure on many of the lists of the year's best transfers. Relax, everyone. Jackson and co have nothing to answer for.

The constant bickering has really made this thread unenjoyable. If the green tint is intentional then so be it, if it's a mistake then they'll correct it with a disc replacement. It as easy as that. Now stop the arguing, please!

I would just like to defend Bill Hunt for a second. If I remember correctly, he went after Paramount hard trying to get answers about why Gladiator looked like a mess. He was on them hard and went to bat for us. I'm sure his constant e-mails to Paramount helped speed that replacement process along. I don't think people should be questioning him about this. There's no doubt he's on our side.

But, even those who have actually watched the discs and think the problem is not as severe as the screen caps suggest, confirm that the image is green tinted and considerably darker than we were used to from previous releases of the same material.

So, much to my chagrin, I am cancelling my order from Borders, even though I managed to get it for just $61.23 including taxes and free shipping, which to me was a pretty good price.

I really loathe the screen caps, the new color timing looks awful to me and, as I have said repeatedly, even unprofessional, with severe problems in the gamma department and a highly contrasty look with hints of black crush. And I believe that even a toned-down version of those problems –as some reviewers are reporting for the actual discs– would be unacceptable to me.

I really, really hope this disaster is addressed and fixed by Warner/New Line in the near future, because if this stays as a "proper" transfer, I am afraid this will be a "before & after" point for BD quality and everything will go downhill from now on.

And for those who like it... well, more power to you.
Well I think that's fine, if you feel that way, without seeing it. Perhaps you should watch a friends copy or rent. I still think you will be pleasantly surprised. However, if you are one of the 9 people on here who cancel their order based on this thread then I would only say that the evidence (based on those who have watched the disc) does not truly support your decision. NO ONE.. yet, would send it back. So why would you decide to cancel based on a unanimous approval of the video quality??

I'd just like to take a moment out from all this bickering to make an ironic observation about my shipping status.

I've long wished that some of deliveries would show up a day early - as I've had Mondays off of work - and that has never happened. Now, of course, that my schedule has just changed (resulting in me now working on Mondays) - my delivery is scheduled for early arrival on ......... Monday.

Wait, hold on. Let me change the Excitement meter first otherwise the needle might shoot forwards too quickly and break itself. To go from pointless bickering to shipping status updates is too much for it to handle.

You owe me one high five now.

Now even the Digital copy doesn't match?... lolololololololololololololol

Seroiusly, are we still debating whether there has been a botch job?

What more do you need????

The fact that there hasn't been a officail statement was all you needed to know... But seriously, how can you even question it now.

LOL @ "Well maybe they just used the old master for the digital copy".

The funniest thing about that would be that that in itself is another botch by WHV.

IT NEVER ENDS!!! Why can't they get the release of this film right?
Umm I guess you don't understand that the digital copy is just the DVD version, so of course it wouldn't look like the new master.

I didn't say it was pointless bickering.

No worries mate; people get confused on the Internet all the time.

But yes, I was referring to the quoted post.

As far as this set goes, I've canceled my Amazon pre-order. Ordered it locally so I don't have to wait until at least Wednesday for the shipment to arrive, plus I have Tuesday off work to watch all the films so that works better regardless.

Reading this thread has been pretty entertaining. I hope everyone will be satisfied with the outcome whether it's a statement by Peter Jackson or someone of equal "credibility".

But I will say that I showed my mother the two comparison photo collages on page 277. My mom is the last person in the world to even care about the picture quality of any movie and she preferred the old version. Haha to me, that's pretty telling.
