I saw Super 8 last night.

It was really fun.

Cool story.

The kids were mostly very good actors.

Some sappy/cheesey/Spielbergish moments that added to the film IMO.

Audio was insane.

Pretty cool monster.

4/5

i had a discussion with some friends about this, but for sound effects did you think the monster sounded like
[Show spoiler]1. a Transformer or 2. the Smoke Monster from Lost?
i first thought #1, but then also thought #2 at times. not that i'm complaining, just something that instantly i was like, "wow. this sounds REALLY familiar!"

Year: 2002 | 2003 (US release)
Director: Danny Boyle
Writer: Alex Garland
Starring: Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson, Megan Burns, and Christopher Eccleston

The film that made me believe in the horror genre again.

The film that made me a fan of Danny Boyle.

The film that made me a fan of Cillian Murphy.

The film that legitimately scared me numerous times.

28 Days Later = masterpiece? Pretty darn close.

After an infection breaks out (an infection of “rage” as the scared to death scientist tells us), we wake up with Jim (Murphy) in an abandoned hospital. It appears something has happened as it is in disarray and no one is to be found outside or anywhere nearby. Dead silence. Trash everyone. A board full of notes for missing family members. Spooky, haunting score.

I was hooked!

Then the “zombies” that aren’t zombies arrive. And all hell breaks lose. Aggressive, hostile, relentless, vicious… and how Boyle films and shoots them is incredible. You really get the sense that these infected could beat the bloody hell out of the zombies in Dawn of the Dead or any other apocalypse film. These guys and gals mean BUSINESS.

What makes it scarier is the lack of weapons our heroes have. On top of that - they act like humans - they get tired, they make mistakes, they fight, they plead, they’re confused, they’re hungry and tired and always have to be on the move. And no place they go is ever safe from the infected.

It’s pure genius.

The audience never feels safe. Even in the third act, when we should feel safe, we don’t. Because of the people we meet? Because of the conditions? Because of what we know is out there? All three.

Then of course take into account that not just a bite will infect you. Any blood, saliva, a cut, a scrape, ANYTHING from them that gets in your blood stream (or mouth, eyes, ears, cuts…) infects you. And as Selena tells us - it only takes 30 seconds or so for a normal person to be turned.

Love it.

One of my favorite horror movies. Sure, it’s not #1, and sure, I find a few select films scarier, but that doesn’t take away the impact of 28 Days Later.

Love it. And love the sequel too, which is damn good.

PQ: 4/5 - don’t care what you say, this looks great because of what it was made with
AQ: 4.5/5 - startling!

The Film: 5/5
Ray Winstone is massively underrated.

Yes, familiar. Bu like you, no complaints. My theater was shaking big time. I think they upgraded their system again. The train wreck FELT louder than a real train wreck.

Ah, I break up 8th July at Sixth Form College over here, yet again we are in and out a few times this week, with preparations for next years students, teacher strikes going on and me getting nominated for 4 Oscars. (Yeah you hear correctly) We're winding down a bit now, however, we're watching The Descent because it ties into some of the work we will be doing next year I'll probably will be watching Dog Soldiers and Doomsday as well

haha hell yeah! can't wait to hear that at home with my lousy soundbar i remember during that scene, it just went ON AND ON and one of my buddies was like, "oh come on" and kind of scoffed and i sideways chopped him in the throat awesome scene.

oddly enough, two like, 15 year olds left about 20 minutes in either they thought it was gonna be a Godzilla type movie or something or their parents didn't want them out past 10!

that is so cool
best movie i watched in school was Monster's, Inc.

and in one of my classes (actually two, back to back with the same teacher) all we would watch - OVER AND OVER AGAIN - was Air Force One and Rudy and these were watched in like, Comparative Literature & Psychology and we only watched them because the teacher was in charge of creating plays for the football team so he would throw that on so he could "get some work done"

Ah at my old school we got our teacher to put Hot Fuzz on, but she turned it off 20 mins in due to the strong language then she made use choose between Confessions of a Shopaholic or Honey Wound up watching both films because I had her twice, both were awful, but at least Shopaholic was watchable.

Also, in RE we were forced to watch Sister Act to teach us about life in a monastery, it didn't teach much

You likely be disappointed if you go in thinking it's a huge mystery. The movie centers on the kids, not the monster. Its presence is mainly to symbolize the themes of the movie. Just go in expecting a good, old school adventure flick and you'll enjoy it.

That what I've always been expecting since the trailer came out, and it's been the driving force of my anticipation, but the film still has an essence of mystery around it, and it'll get spoiled by the time the film is out over here, I know when Cloverfield was set to come out, I had to wait an extra 2 weeks and that got spoiled easily

Yeah, it's just 'cause almost everyone who are hating on the film are complaining about the lack of screen time for the monster, when it was never even advertised to be this huge monster flick in the first place.

It's just about... six more weeks. You can do it!
