If consumer choose the HD DVD format, then why it's still 2:1 in the USA, 3:1 in Europe, 14:1 in Japan.

Why there isn't a HD DVD burner yet for the pc
Why the cheapest HD DVD rom is still the Xbox 360 drive

LOL

Until Toshiba goes out of business? What an idiot. I think he meant to say until HD DVD goes out of business.

Just goes to show you the caliber of marketing folk MS are dealing with...

Sort of like those idiots that run around using big words not knowing what they mean making a jerk out of themselves.

I sort of agree... except that I think it would be just TOO FUNNY to see Microsoft have to release a BD drive for the 360 -- especially since that means adding BD-J (Java) capability to their system.

The suffering almost makes it worth it.

I wouldn't because I bet it would be just as crippled as the HD DVD drive is. No support for the new audio codecs, and a lot of 360's don't have HDMI... And most likely for the price, you can get a stand alone player for just a little more money.

MS will never produce one .. this is all spin and damage control .. so they don't lose customers to the $399 PS3 ... they are just trying to keep them on the hook with an empty promise they don't plan to follow thru on .. just like they did with HD DVD.

Once this next piece of FUD serves it's purpose they will drop it along with anyone silly enough to still believe what they say...again just like HD DVD.

Plus there is an assumption that the 360 can handle the higher-bit rates of Blu-ray .. there was some articles a time back that indicated the HD DVD decoding was maxing out the 360..I think Blu-ray bit-rates can be about 50% higher - ~30mb to ~48MB or there abouts.

While I recognize the importance of the PS3 in the format war, who cares if xbox has a blu drive? As far as gaming systems go, the xbox is a far superior product when multi-player gaming is concerned. Having a blu-player would only help push the format even further.

The same way that the fate HD-DVD rested on the decision of Warner Bros., the fate of Playstation 3 depends on its ability upgrade the multiplayer capabilities and to keep exclusive RPG titles that would render it a required piece of gaming equipment to most console gamers. Square is already launching a large RPG title for the Xbox 360 and I suspect if it is a success there is a chance that PlayStation could lose Final Fantasy exclusivity. If that would happen, I can foresee the death of the PlayStation console.

Before I get murdered alive for my comments, I would like to say that I fully support Sony and the Blu effort. I just think that they really need to kick it up a notch as far as the gaming/multiplayer portion of the PlayStation is concerned and I don't get behind supporting the inferior product just because of brand loyalty. If that was the case I would be in the HD-DVD camp.

Have you play Warhawk?? That puts the multi in online gaming experience. It doesn't lag, it doesn't freeze, so much going on screen at once and the server is FREE!

But put that aside, there's games like Killzone 2 and Haze coming up.
Look up those, they look fantastic!

Not to mention this large RPG you are reffering to by Square for the 360. What is it? The Last Remnant? That's also for the PS3 as well. So it's not like it is exclusive or anything.

PS3 is a year behind 360, remember that. It took the 360 almost two years to get a title like Halo 3.

The PS3 is a powerful machine, and it has plenty of room to grow.

It's not so much individual games that I am commenting on as it is the actually online experience of the xbox vs playstation. Xbox by charging a small fee has the ability to offer a higher quality online product. Im all for switching over and paying sony if they had to charge for it, but I want to see the same or better online community and marketplace.

I understand that there are no exclusive titles for the 360 yet and its really not the point I was going for. Its more that simultaneous multi-platform releases from rpg heavyweights like square is something we wouldnt have seen in the past.

PS3 just needs to get its ass in gear in the gaming market now that they have won the war in the hi-def arena.

Halo 3 while an entertaining play, was not the juggernaut that everyone expecting in the multi-player arena. Games like Call of Duy 4 really win that title. And again this is an example of a game that is better on Xbox than PS3.

I agree with the spirit of your post and the original intent of my post was not actually to bash the PS3. I really hope that it can emerge as a decisive winner in the gaming market as well. As a Apple fanatic, I never thought I would consciously buy a Microsoft product... hopefully I can find a reason to never have to again.

sorry, you are totally wrong there, CoD4 is the first game for both platforms where there is zero difference. PS3 has suffered a number of poor ports from the 360, but this game scored virtually identically on both platforms from independent gaming sites. There is no difference in the game experience between the consoles. Which for multi platform games is how it should be.

I'm curious though and I've asked this before but got no response, how is Xbox Live SO much better than the free service offered by Sony? I get game and movie trailers, game demo's, add ons for games, full games, a free online gaming system that works beautifully, voice chat, etc, etc. What exactly is it that the Xbox has that makes it so superior? This is an honest question that I'd really like to know the answer too. Aside from not being able to flick to the XMB during a game (which is on the way), I don't feel I'm missing out on anything. So please enlighten me.

if they made a bluray only 360 it would screw every person who has a 360 already since they would have to a buy a new 360 to play any new games.

and would old 360 games play in a bluray only 360?

I don't know how I would feel about a BD drive in an Xbox...I don't think they deserve it.

They won't do it because they can't every use the space for games, so why bother?

The Elite is already the same price as the 40Gb PS3, so they'd have to make a more expensive version which simply wouldn't sell. They'd end up with a console that's more expensive than the competition with nothing extra for your money!!
