I work in a High Quality A/V store, and we sell both Blu-ray and hd-dvd players. Every time I'm talking to a Customer about blu-ray vs. hd-dvd (ultimately, it is there decision, but they tend to listen to me when I tell them why Blu-Ray is better), he has a tendency to Interrupt and tell them to Buy Both, claiming it's a lot like Video games, you need to have both, to be able to get all the Movies you want.
If they say they don't want both, he tends to try and sway them towards HD-DVD, telling them how blu-ray has "Noise", and hd-dvd doesn't. He States that HD-DVD players are better up converters, making them a better Machine (Although he Loves the BDP-S1). Recently, He talks about how Universal and Paramount, together with Microsoft and Toshiba are More Powerful than Sony and "The Few Smaller Studios", and then Mentions that Toshibasoft payed Paramount off, and that he can Only Imagine that the BDA payed Warner off to join them, and that things like this Will be going back and Forth, again trying the tell them to Buy Both. Or If not, telling the Customer that Microsoft and Toshiba can Afford to pay more people off than Sony, (He also doesn't listen to the fact that there are Huge Numbers of CE Companies Supporting BD) even though Sony Had a Higher Revenue and Income than Microsoft last Year. I can Understand him wanting to sell 2 players instead of 1, more money for the Store, but when I'm telling a customer about the wonders of Blu-ray, you don't tell them that I'm Wrong and HD-DVD is Better. He Undermines what little Credibility we are allowed to have as Salespeople these Days, since we all know that Salespeople are to Rip you off, and steal your money *sarcasm*. He makes the people question everything Else I've Sold Them, especially wondering if the $3999 they just Threw at an XBR is worth it (it's not). After that Rant, my Question is, What movie should I be playing to demonstrate PQ in Blu-Ray? Currently Using Pirates 3, but only because it's open, I know this film is Horrible for Grain. It can't Be cars or Rattatouille, because people are generally stupid these days and Believe that a regular DVD looks the Same when it's a CGI. It needs to have Little Film Grain, if any (this is the "Noise" he refers to) and can't be too Dark, otherwise people think the TV is dark, and won't buy the Television, which makes us more money than 5 Blu-Ray Players. And What Can I say to Him to make him realize Blu-Ray is the Winning Format? PS. Telling him not to talk to My Customers Doesn't Work, he's a Lousy Boss, and an even Worse Person... As Soon as I get enough Money to Abuse my Discount and Get me My Totem Speakers and my 52XBR4, I'm Out of There. |
