Hey, I get to take beer and pizza to the drive-in... the local walk-in theater doesn't allow that. And refreshments are twice as much as the damn ticket to walk in...

Make sure you and your buddy have the B!tch seat between you guys... otherwise it will look like youre on a Man Date.
I don't even know where there is a drive in around here, I thought those things died out a long time ago.

It takes a long time to turn on and eject a disc when powering up but after that it's fast and has been a good unit for me, it does everything I need it to do and more. It lacks multi channel analog inputs but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. I had to return the first unit I got but the new one hasn't had any glitches at all. I haven't tried any of the streaming features yet or the analog connections, only HDMI. It's also much bigger than the Sony's, Samsung's etc but actually has a bit of weight to it.

many did, but they are honestly the best place to go when you have kids... I get all 5 of us in for less then $20, and we can take as many drinks as we want in the ice chest, we usually make up popcorn, buy some candy, and take a pizza with us... then the kids pass out and I try to convince the wife to put her head in my lap.... hahahaha

hmm.... I was thinking if I can't get a Sony 470 that the Denon was looking like a suitable bdp, however the Marantz which is basically the same, but has a 3 yr warranty... but its $100 more. Then I basically have enough for the Oppo... so IDK... I want something that can play SACD, but don't want to pay $500

That's why I got the Denon, it was $365 after tax. I got a really good deal on it. I think the Denon and Marantz are the same just with different face plates, I could be wrong though.

hmm... we'll see, I wish I had bought the damn Oppo 80, maybe I can catch the Sony 1700ES or the Denon 1611UD on sale, or get Seans 470.

Why did Oppo kill the bdp 80 anyway? I would think that they would have sold well, $500 is pretty steep for the entry level model.

yeah, $500 is steep for an entry level bdp... I heard that they weren't selling as many of those as they were the 83 and 83SE. I guess those that know of Oppo wouldn't typically be in the "entry level" market... IDK.

I guess the Oppo 93 isn't an entry level bdp but I would have thought they would have had a good thing going with the 80, I guess not. What's the max you want to spend on a new bdp?

well if I could get one for like $150 or less that plays SACD like the 470 thats $128 on amazon, thatd be perfect I want to get the X12s on Agon, so I don't want to get into that budget at all.. or into that pissing match with the wife... Ive spent a lot of money on HT/2-ch this year, well since last august, and want to keep the WAF high... so the least amount possible would be great.

I think you will find a great value in that 470 and personally I don't intent to upgrade my 550 anytime soon not until it breaks at least

I might consider an Oppo too when the time comes.

If your using HDMI I don't think there's going to be a huge difference between any of them. Go for the 470 and get the speakers. I wouldn't invest a whole lot in SACD capability until you have a bigger collection, for just a few discs it's not worth spending too much extra money IMO.

470 supports SACD Andrew Sony invented SACD back in the day like they did for bluray The irony is that older models like my 550 did not support SACD.

I guess that what you meant anyways as the 470 is a budget BDP that supports that media

I knew that the 470 supports SACD, I guess I was trying to say that unless you have a big collection of SACD's the Sony will do just fine. Sometimes I question why I didn't just buy a Sony as I only have a few SACD's and don't really see myself buying many more. We hardly ever listen to music in the basement, it's probably 95% movies on that system.

You could probably get a good idea by listening to the Denon 3311, I've found that the new Marantz offerings sound more like Denon's than anything else. I used to have the Marantz AV 7005 and the it sounded very similar to the pre amp section of the Denon 3311.

I don`t know Callas it was a guy that works with me , that told me about it , he has a older Onkyo and saw this model on a magazine , and like it .

He asked me what i tough , and i told him that i wasen`t too familiar with the Marantz since the 80`s but that i knew the right guy to get some info about it .

Thanks for the info Aces , i will keep that in mind , its funny that you spoke about Denon , they sell it here in the big retail stores but i tried to remember and i don`t remember if ever saw one connected

when the economy kinda took a dump, you saw Denon/Marantz and Onkyo/Integra start to do a lot of similar things. Onkyo went the right direction and made their receivers more like Integras, Denon(DM Holdings) made the Marantz sound more like the Denons. I prefer that warmer more musical sound, and so I like the Marantz 5003 over the 5005 sonically. And traditionally the Marantz's over the Denons sound. Likewise I prefer the sonic signature of the Integra's over the Onkyos(until this year, when the onkyos took on the Integras sound).

However, looking at the new 5006, and 6006, I would give them a good long listen. Marantz/Denon usually are pretty reliable receivers, so that IMO, is always a must consideration. I don't think that Marantz/Denon apply audyssey in the same way that Onkyo/Integra does. Maybe as this economy is getting better and the words spoken around the forums, Marantz may go back to their signature sound... IDK, or perhaps paired with your co-workers speakers they might be a lovely combination. Best thing he could do is audition it. Now that I have seen it, its on my audition to-do list. Another thing to consider is that Marantz typically you usually get pre-outs on the Marantz receiver long before you do on the Denons.

As Im sure you know by know, I try to audition anything I can, even tho I won't be buying it... I love to know what stuff sound like. Helps me gage what i like and what I think others might enjoy also, OR what kind of budget gear will offer the greatest ratio of price to performance.
