It was a combination of both for the films.

I remember that in the A L I E N novel it mentioned: "Nostrome thumbed it's metalic nose at Einstein's theory of relativity".

Ridley Scott’s Alien-prequel-but-not-an-Alien-prequel Prometheus already has a stellar cast. The sci-fi flick features Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, and Guy Pearce, and now JoBlo is reporting that Ben Foster has signed on. Almost everything about the film is being kept under wraps so we don’t know what role he’ll play, but Foster is a fantastic addition to any cast.

We’re still awaiting official confirmation from Fox on Foster’s casting, but the studio has dismissed yesterday’s rumored synopsis. Instead, they’ve provided an official synopsis which deserves some kind of award for vagueness. Here’s what the synopsis tells you definitively: the movie takes place in outer space (and we already knew that). Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8, 2012.

They basically said "so there are some dudes, and possibly some ladies who do something IN SPACE!"

I've been waiting 12 years for Ben to finally get his big break, and so far it hasn't happened. Hopefully this could change things.

Me too! The Punisher, 3:10 to Yuma, and so many other movies he's been great in and yet he hasn't caught a break. It's so sad...Hopefully this is it.

Well the first synopsis was stupid and the second one read like a legal disclaimer. Im surprised it wasnt in very small print.

The second version may possibly the vaguest description of a movie I've ever seen. It read like a generic spec script for any sci fi movie in space.

I had two problems with the first version. So hundreds of millions of years ago this species was so advanced they came to earth, terraformed it and created all the life here. So now, 100s of millions of years later they r prolly a tad more evolved, yet they arent smart enough to fend of the first humans who wander by. But the dumb part is that this is an old story. Ya, a guy named Prometheus stole fire from the gods in Greek mythology. While that makes Prometheus a cool name for the movie it's an awful name for the ship. Maybe they all dress like pirates as well.

Glad this was fake and if it wasnt it should be.

Sweet, Ben Foster will be perfect for this movie. He was great in that other Sci-Fi movie with Dennis Quaid edit: Pandorum, as well as other movies I've watched him in.

the vague synopsis that Fox release still sounds alot like the plot was leaked out....

As someone pointed out, tho maybe not here, the reason u do prequels isnt so when Star Wars: A New Hope begins u already know who Luke's father is. Introducing the creature in a prequel undermines Alien to any generation that hasnt seen it. The best part of that classic film is the suspense caused by the slow reveal.

There's no saying we'll see the Xenomorph we're used to though. From what we've heard, we'll see a different form of the alien, before it becomes the version we know in the original movies. I'm all for this since it's not directly a prequel. It's sort of a spin-off and I think it's definitely going to be interesting. Not to mention Michael Fassbender is in it, and he's a badass. I can't wait to see him in this.
