I will definitely be buying Fox's version and will double dip for Criterion's if there ever is one.
If it's barebones I can see a Tree of Life release in the future.

They also love David Lynch films and he has yet to have a Criterion also keep in mind Fox released a great release of Fantastic Mr Fox even though all Wes Anderson films are on blu.

The same article that mentions the "new" six hour cut also said that the movie was originally an 8 hour cut. We heard the same crap with "THin Red line" but it never materialized, so i'm not holding my breath. Film was amazing. If it doesn't win best Cinematography then i don't know what reason i have for giving a crap about the Oscars from that point onward. I can't wait to see whatever version on Bluray.

This film was incredible.
I think Malick's letter to the projectionists had its effect, as it was probably the best-looking 35mm print I've seen.
I think the Blu-ray will be stunning as well.

How certain is it that Criterion are planning to release Badlands? I thought this was a Warner title, and Warner have a policy of not licensing out their titles.

6 hour cut? 8 hour cut? Huh? What the hell....???? Thats absurd. No way.

I might rent this at some point but Malick has hung me out to dry on numerous occassions. Only Days of Heaven was any good to me which is because it played out like a normal movie. All his films have great cinematography and production values.... but many of them lack in the plot/pacing department.

"Badlands" plays out like a "normal" movie.

Then skip this one. Plot, in the conventional sense, does not seem to be the point.

Warner and Criterion made a deal in early 2009 for Criterion to get a few of their films at the behest of their directors. Malick and Criterion have a good relationship, so its assumed that Badlands is coming. But again, these things take awhile so it might be a bit of time before we see it.

Can't wait to get this! Saw it two times in the cinema, and loved it!

Some sequences are going to be pure demo material, and simply beyond epic!

Awe-inspiring images and sound, and a wonderful, deeply moving story.

I wished he'd sent the same letter overseas. I was surprised by how soft and just generally unimpressive the film looked. Also, there were a surprising amount of dust and specks on the print, for a relatively new print. I'd love to watch it again on the big screen, but that experience has made me decide to wait for the Blu-ray.

lol @ Uwe Boll calling Tree of Life a "Piece of ****". Yep, Uwe Boll

Would love a Criterion release of this. Especially if it is a 6 or 8 hour edition!

doesn't surprised me one but i mean, come on, Uwe Boll makes.... "different" kind of films than Malick. he isn't making the same type of genre films, so maybe Boll hates slower paced films?

but then again he criticized Michael Bay so he must not like loud, action oriented films...
...which means he must just like the crap he makes and that's that

haha, I was just reading the widipedia on Uwe Boll:

Uwe Boll (German pronunciation: [ˈuːvə ˈbɔl]; born June 22, 1965) is a German director, producer and screenwriter, whose work includes several films adapted from video games. He finances his own films through his Boll KG production company.[1] He is also considered one of the worst directors of all time.[1][2][3]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uwe_Boll

Damn, he gets eaten up alive in the criticism. Don't think I've ever seen an Uwe Boll movie, look pretty much like garbage.
