I always think all the people in this thread disliking what
Peter Jackson has done instead of going on an on why not do a
online petition or even call an tell the studio cause honestly you never know until you try

An on page 448 In my opinion the EE balrog look almost spot on
with just the proper lighting

See?....this is why it didn't take long at all to put these quotes together.

Also funny in the last shot here it shows that the TE has more tint then the EE. Which is also evidence that the transfer for EE of FOTR is intentionally corrected by PJ.
The TE has different color timing, not a tint, as you will see with a post I'll make later today.

Some people like to complain about everything I guess.

I just watched the FOTR EE on Blu-ray again last night and don't understand. Yes some scenes look a *little* more greenish but there is nothing serious here and it seems to be what was intended. If that ruins your day and you don't have more important stuff to spend your time on then go nuts I guess.

Haha dude, have you seen what some of the people here are doing? They are taking screenshots and "fixing" them. They're not even adjusting the movie itself, they are only "fixing" screenshots and posting them up in this thread. It's so weird! Like a final act of desperation and hope that one day the film will look the way THEY want it to look.

Well, that would be one of the two main issues we've been discussing: the green tint and the contrast boost.

Take care,

See my point?

Well I would assume because they simply didn't encode new versions for those.

Why else? Do you really think the color change is an encoding or authoring issue? That is an extremely less likely scenario.

Simple answer seems to be that they are simply recycling older encodes for some of the digital files.

That's not really an accurate description. The screen shots being posted, at least in my case, are not what I WANT it to look like. It is an attempt to objectively discern what new color timing to the HD master lies under the green tint and contrast boost that many of us have come to believe is a mistake for a large number of reasons.

Some of us MAY use these settings to re-encode the film eventually, but that's not what this is about.

This thread is starting to devolve again. I'm staring to think that those of us interested in a thoughtful discussion should start taking Ken's advice and start reporting the posts of people who are basically adding nothing to the conversation except for conflict and insults.

What if Peter Jackson himself eventually says (in an interview or whatever) that he supervised the remastering and FOTR looks as he wants it to look now?

Will you still alter it and re-encode? Or will you leave it as is and watch it as the director intends?

Just curious. I'm used to posting more on movie sites where people are all about watching as the director intended rather than these type of A/V sites where people are more about their gear and obsessing over transfers etc.

In terms of the thread devolving, maybe a mod should make a new thread for discussing the color timing issues of FOTR and leave this thread for discussing anything else about the LOTR boxed set?

For instance, someone asked a question about the documentaries a few pages back and it got lost in the shuffle (I didn't respond as I haven't watched them yet).

I've already done just that. It will be the only way to have a serious thread. Read what the site manager said when he reopened the thread everyone.

Last night it was out of control. Today is alright. We're all friends here right?!?!

We all just want the "best" "PJ Approved" transfer of FOTR EE. Until PJ says something, we will not know for sure.

In future sets Warner's should include a green tinted piece of cellophane that can be placed over the screen so that TTT and RotK can be viewed in a way that is consistent with Peter Jackson's new vision for FotR.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I tend to think I would ultimately do a re-encode that I thought eliminated the tint and contrast boost and was more consistent with the other two films, but at least I wouldn't be upset about the cost of purchase for a set that seems to be unintentionally flawed.

Directors make questionable decisions sometimes. If I could bring back The French Connection's normal look back with a video filter, I would. But that bit of tinkering is quite irreversible unfortunately.

Great humor

And, it would have been much easier than to spend time coloring over beloved scenes...
