There's also actor/production slarary, CGI money, score and 3D to pay for. 3D alone adds 30+million to a film.

None of the actors involved are high priced actors though, I mean hell Charlize still does the occasional indie film. But there is no way they spend $230 million on this movie and make it R-rated. I could see $160 million but $230 is insane. Unless it truly is for two movies. Haven't they learned by now 3D is already getting played out, I've been burned out on it for over a year. Either way this will end up being a PG-13 if the budget is even remotely close to that figure.

Maybe Marketing AND production?

Or maybe that's just not the budget.

Now that would make sense I just don't really ever hear budget announced when it includes marketing. Either way I'm really tired of all these secretive movies that leave fans wondering what it is for months and months.

They are keeping it a huge secret. I can name 10 movies that won't be out for two years with more details.

The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
what more do you need to know this early on? we know its in the tradition of Alien, we know its about Man's origins, we know theres giant creatures, we know theres a replicant/android...
plus 10 movies that are 2 years away? i cant even think of that many movies that are 2 years away.
we know just as little about Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spider-Man, and just about every other big movie coming out next summer.

I'm probably very alone here, but the only Alien film I ever cared for was Aliens. I was always a much bigger Predator fan and LOVED all three, not counting those awkward AVP movies. So I don't have the best knowledge of the Alien universe and for the most part feel quite lost while reading through this thread. But I feel safe in making these predictions anyways....

Noomi Rapace will be the lone survivor of the film, while Fassbender will be revealed as a droid and will return in the sequel.

shouldnt matter as this movie is supposedly barely even connected to Alien.

I'd like to get a clear frakking answer on that already, lol.

Sometimes not having much of a grasp on the originals is better for the viewer. In the case of First Class I LOVED it, and had no issues with continuity like most of the people who OBSESSED endlessly in the thread about how it changed to many things that were part of the other movies. But for me as I never cared for the other movies and had almost no memory of them I was able to view First Class as a new beginning. I'm wondering if the same will be the case for this.

well plot wise it has nothing to do with the other Alien movies. it involves elements from Alien but nothing connected to any existing characters.
its like how you dont have to have seen Predator to understand Predator 2. its familiar elements but not really a direct continuation of anything.

its similar to the design of the space jockeys ship from Alien, so presumeably this is some sort of structure created by that race since they are a central part of the movie.

I keep hearing "space jockeys" but for the life of me cannot remember what that means. I saw the original, one time probably 15 years ago.
