Any info from the insiders/mods/or members here who are there would be greatly appreciated!
None of the machines displayed are working.

The people at the booths answer from a FAQ and have to track down an engineer for technical questions. I'll ask but I can't promise anything.

Any plans to do any commercials during the Superbowl for Blu-ray that you can talk about? Since commercials during that game generally get talked about and posted about in articles before and after the game, I would love to see articles on the internet and newspapers that list something along the lines of: Sony commercial explaining that the PS3 plays Blu-ray high definition movies, besides videogames. Since Peyton Manning is a spokesperson for Sony, seems like he might be a good one to use to try to get this point across, although I do like the PS3 morphing commercials.

And as far as Sony, is Dale Earnhardt Jr. still going to be a Sony spokesperson? I haven't seen any more on that in a while. Seems like another good person to get the point across about all the capabilities of the PS3.

Interesting question, I'm not sure if there's enough time to put one together but a commercial "What are you going to do now that the war is over" with a montage of memorable homecomings from films and the signature "....come home to Blu-Ray" at the end. I think it could be pretty cool (everybody laps up the video montages) and it's a way of telling/reminding people that the format war is over without actually declaring it. Btw, I much prefer the product speak for itself rather than a spokesman though I do realize that not every product has its own voice, that's not the case with film.

Max, thanks for the updates. I guess you answered my question regarding the out clause indirectly.

By the way, I'm surprised you subject yourself to such abuse. Are you ordered by your employer to post to AVS? I think you're wasting your time, AVS is a lost cause.

enjoy

Perhaps using Peyton Manning in a Blu-ray/PS3 commercial for the Super Bowl and one using Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the Daytona 500 in mid February would be a great combo. Jr. is known for his love of video games, so he is a natural choice to endorse the PS3.
Yeah, I've been waiting to see some use of Jr. too by Sony. It appears to be a personal contract, not one through HMS...so I don't expect to see a blu-ray car for a race or two unfortunately. I expect some Sony commercials just Payton's.

hi. 2 questions to our Insiders:

-- Has the industry been closely monitoring the market since the Warner annoucement? Has there been yet a quantifiable surge in Blu-ray hardware & disc sales, and also a decrease in the HD DVD numbers?

Is there anything you could share with us, that could be more meaningful than the Amazon rankings or the number of items on eBay?

-- Other than Disney and Fox, the BD studios haven't announced many titles at the CES. With things looking good for Blu-ray, can we expect an increase in the number of releases (including catalog) this Spring?

I have a question for insiders

M$ is basically saying they would consider a Blu ray add on for the 360 if consumers so choose. Would Sony be ok with that since it may hurt PS3 sales? Can M$ just go ahead and have a Blu ray add-on produced?

"It should be consumer choice; and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider," Albert Penello, group marketing manager for Xbox hardware said when asked whether Microsoft would support a Blu-ray DVD accessory in the event that HD-DVD failed.

I remember hearing about this during mid-season last year. Found a few articles by googling "earnhardt sony".

i.e. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor...rdt-sony_N.htm

I didn't see anything saying otherwise, but I believe this was inked BEFORE he made the Hendrick switch. I'd be interested to know if he will still be touting it as well.

I see no reason for them not to be allowed to join the BDA or gain a licence.
Thanks for the quick reply Max. I had been wondering about that for a while.

Anyone wanna second the possible importance of 1-10-08?

Or the 7-10 day theory?

That is supposedly when Paramount will announce Blu-ray exclusivity. Of course I don't expect you guys to answer this because again, it should be the stuido making the announcement for themselves. I'm sure Penton would give us a colorful hint though.

That would certainly makeup for the lack of titles announcements.

I would have to think the window has already closed. Is there actually a chance they will give Universal or Paramount anything to jump ship at this point? I think Universal totally blew it's chance and let Warner come out as the hero.

I assumed any corporations wanting to switch would wait until the booths have been dismantled. That would be cruel.

Question for Max.

I'm not 100% sure but I think it was you who mentioned Warner would be releasing the Matrix movies around Xmas '08 on Blu. Any idea why we have to wait so long? Is Warner waiting for a bigger install base?

God, please ANYBODY but Peyton Manning again. He's already in every other commercial.

I'm already tired of Reggie Bush in all these commercials as well...so don't include him either...

maybe Adrian Peterson?
