Oh my bad, I thought those years were flipped. I must not have seen Hunting until '98, cause I had no idea who Damon was when I saw Ryan.

Hunting actually only came out 6-7 months before SPR.

4 episodes into season 1. Great show so far - a lot darker than I expected. It kind of reminds me of Dexter a little bit, but it definitely has its own feel to it that I really enjoy. Hopefully I will be able to catch up by the first episode of season 4!

Just finished watching all 3 seasons yesterday. I'd been waiting to watch the show until the season 3 Blu-ray came out. I wasn't a huge fan of season 1, although it may have been partly because it was so short, but I liked season 2 and thought season 3 was great. They did a good job in season 3 of changing things up and not letting the show get stale. I can't wait to see the season 4 premiere in a week and a half.

The Dark Art of 'Breaking Bad'

NY Times
Quote:
In its first season, “Breaking Bad” seemed like the story of the nuttiest midlife crisis ever, told with elements that felt vaguely familiar. The structure — felonious dad copes with stress of work and family; complications ensue — owed an obvious debt to “The Sopranos,” and the collision of regular people and colorfully violent thugs nodded to Tarantino. The story and setting were an update of the spaghetti Western, minus the cowboys and set in the present.

But it was soon clear that “Breaking Bad” was something much more satisfying and complex: a revolutionary take on the serial drama. What sets the show apart from its small-screen peers is a subtle metaphysical layer all its own. As Walter inches toward damnation, Gilligan and his writers have posed some large questions about good and evil, questions with implications for every kind of malefactor you can imagine, from Ponzi schemers to terrorists. Questions like: Do we live in a world where terrible people go unpunished for their misdeeds? Or do the wicked ultimately suffer for their sins?

They need to have some consistency in the
[Show spoiler] money he's making and not always going broke, I'm personally getting tired of him making money then burning it, losing it, or messing it up. Its really becoming quite redundant.

When did he do that?
[Show spoiler]He still has over half a million stuffed in a duffel bag and he's been working for Gus to get the promised three million. What has he lost or messed up?

I can't remember, but I'll take notes if I rewatch before I start season 4, I can just remember saying to myself why doesn't this guy have more money.

Yeah he still has a ton of money left but I forgot what episode but I believe it was the third season he burnt some of it on his grill and then threw it in the pool afterwards I believe or just left it burning.

Season one was mostly about very basic problems most shows don't even think twice about, such as how do you get rid of a body, how do actually you get your product "out there" once you made it. They hadn't figured out how to make some real money.

If I remember correctly, the only time any money they made got lost was at the beginning of season 2 when they were out in the desert with Tuco, and Hank showed up and took the money. But that wasn't even a lot compared to what Walt's got now.

That was his guilt speaking when he looked at the money. But he didn't burn more than a couple of bills, because he realized that everything he's endured to get that cash would be for nothing.

Yeah what Walt lost in the fire didn't even dent what he has now. Can't wait for the premiere though and only around 1 week left

Yeah, I can't believe that long, long wait is almost over. I've been meaning to re-watch all three seasons, but now I'm realizing that I maybe should have started a little earlier, don't know if I can do it until the 17th.

Yeah luckily I started this show after the 3rd season was done airing so the wait wasn't that long for me but still long enough after the awesome finale. Let's just hope the wait till season 5 isn't as long as this was.

AMC could really take a note from HBO on how to do a trailer for an upcoming season, pumping out footage from season 1-3 and mixing in a few cut scenes is a fail

That's why I rarely ever bother to watch them, it's nothing I haven't seen before.
