As far as I'm concerned, anyone on the US side of the cast is expendable. US actors have trouble coming back to a series after it's been gone for 18 months or 5 years, but brits don't seem to have that trouble.
Yeah plus I have a feeling that
[Show spoiler]most of the US characters will end up dead by the end of the season and we are left with just Jack, Gwen and Rhys again.
We can go back to an alien of the week type series depending on how Miracle Day ends as the
[Show spoiler] tower has been rebuilt as we learned in the first episode of Miracle Day and they can once again reopen Torchwood after building a new hub. All depends of what RTD wants to do though and how Miracle Day ends.

The only problem I forsee is that BBC won't want to take on Torchwood again without a US partner, and a US partner might mandate a US base. I don't mind seeing Torchwood as a global organization, but I still see them as based out of Wales.

My perspective on the alien of the week thing has more to do with expectations than capabilities. It seems easy to me to go from alien of the week to self contained serial, but a bit harder to make the return. I'll be happy to take Torchwood in either flavor, though.

Yeah we'll just have to see how good Miracle Day does for Starz. I posted the ratings in the Doctor Who thread but it did as good as Camelot's first episode did so that's good as long as it doesn't drop. I'm thinking that if Starz doesn't want a 5th season and it does really good in the UK we may see BBCA taking over again to give us a 5th season.

If Starz wants another run I do see them staying in the US though but I'm hoping a 5th season would give us half US and half UK.

'Torchwood: Miracle Day' Premieres as Well as 'Camelot'

Quote:
haven’t seen any demo info yet, but the premiere of Torchwood: Miracle Day was on par with the premiere of Camelot. The good news is that Camelot was Starz’ highest-rated original series premiere to date. The bad news is Camelot was, you know, canceled. It’s the future numbers that will tell the tale of how Starz feels about Torchwood. All the caveats of “it doesn’t include On Demand or Internet viewing” apply, but they applied with Camelot as well, and neither Camelot or Torchwood: Miracle Day was available immediately on Netflix.

Here’s the info via Starz:

“Torchwood: Miracle Day’s” post-holiday weekend premiere on July 8 delivered a combined Friday night audience of 1.51 million viewers P2+; 819K viewers for Friday at 10PM ET/PT (1.9 Live + SD HH Rating) and 687K for 11pm ET/PT (1.4 Live + SD HH Rating).

Total weekend viewership (Friday airings + Sunday 10PM ET/PT and 1AM ET/PT airings) was 2 million viewers P2+, Live + SD (1.96M).

The performance of “Torchwood: Miracle Day” was at parity with the network’s April debut of “Camelot” (1.57M viewers Friday night/2.087 weekend million – both P2+, Live +SD), Starz highest-rated original series premiere to date.

Detective I just decided to turn your posts into a drinking game, every time you begin a post with 'Yeah' I drink. Your last five 5 of 6 posts in this thread just gave me a buzz.

Doesn't look like they will keep Torchwood on starz if they continue on like this, and they hyped the shit out of it for quite some time.

Ratings: Was Torchwood's Return Miraculous?
Quote:
Starz’ much-hyped premiere of Torchwood: Miracle Day got off to a decent start on Friday, drawing 819K viewers at 10 pm. With the 11 pm replay factored in, the debut drew a total of 1.51 million viewers.

Those numbers are on par with the network’s April launch of the now-canceled Camelot, but below the 1.1 million (and 1.9 cume) that tuned in for the premiere of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena last January.

Yeah, Torchwood needs more butt-nekkid gladiators.

Torchwood never really seemed like a smart fit for Starz really IMO. I mean Starz's #1 show is about gladiators killing, sex. blood, swearing while Torchwood is a sci-fi drama. Not really any connections in fanbase and most of Starz's shows/movies seem to fit more with Spartacus then the Torchwood fanbase.

Now it's just up to the UK and with news that ratings could hurt due to most UK fans downloading the show I'm hoping ratings are good enough that BBC will want another Torchwood season.

Yeah, I wonder if the lack of netflix replays actually hurts in any way. You wouldn't think so, but if someone has Starz without on-Demand and Netflix...
