Doing an advanced search using the Search Titles Only option does not work for any words you are searching in the thread title with quotation marks around them, either before the word or after the word or both before and after.
The case in point was in the Television Forum. I title searched Dallas and got no hits. I then searched *Dallas* and got no hits. Also, I got no hits for "Dallas" Obviously, there is a thread about the the Dallas TV show being rebooted. Its here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/television...-attached.html I would suggest that the Forum discourage the use of quotation marks in titles of threads, until such time as the use of " " around words can be found using the search function. When you're trying to see if a thread has been started using the title search function, you will not get any hits for words that have quotation marks in front or in back of those words. |

Not sure how you guys search for things but I always find things I'm looking for when I search whether they are in quotation marks or not. Just found Dallas by searching for Dallas revival and found Terra nova by searching terra nova on my first try. Sometimes you just have to search by using more words and not just one word like Dallas as it's to broad a word.
I don't think you should ban/discourage quotation marks in thread titles though as it's very easy to find them while searching and just takes patience and won't always be the first one. Last edited by detective392; 07-11-2011 at 03:01 PM. |

I still say that you can't get the Dallas TV thread that I referenced, to come up, using a thread title search, with the word Dallas in it.
It is my contention that any words used for any thread title, that have the quotation marks around, or even before or after said words, will not come up in a thread title search. This is an issue for even long words, and Dallas has six characters, which is usually enough characters for almost any search engine. Once again, my issue is with a Thread Title search. I am well aware that a thread body post can spit out all kinds of results... But one should be able to search by title, to narrow the results you have to slog through. But, I of course, will use whatever work-around is necessary, to try avoid a duplicate thread post. ![]() |
