Yep, it's about what I expected. I think the trailer was a slight bit better than the movie itself, and most folks might get the gist of it just from that. But I think it'll go nicely beside "Ichi the Killer."

I think you'll be very happy.

It will take me a couple of hours to write a proper review because this is the kind of film I like analyzing. I'll probably do that tomorrow.

So here are the highlights:

I love the film. Many won't. It's a mess and there's no obvious plot. If you thought Mulholland Dr. was hard to follow, this is much harder. It works as a collection of scenes even if you don't have a clue what's going on. 4.5/5

Picture quality is superb. I expected it to be soft and grainy and it blew me away. I never imagined it would look anywhere near as good as it does. No dirt. A few infrequent white speckles. Light grain. It has chapters if you want to skip to a scene. Tons of detail. 4.5/5

Audio Quality is very good too. There are a lot of songs on the soundtrack (Bowie, This Mortal Coil, Rammstein, Trent Reznor and more). It packs quite a punch. It defaults to German so you need to select English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. 4.5/5

German subtitles are available, but not forced.

Special Features are PAL so you'll only get audio unless you have a region free player. 1/5, if you can play them. You can hear them without a picture.

Making Of (9:28, SD) - shows a few random scenes being filmed so you can see Lynch at work. He doesn't talk to us, he just directs the scenes. German subtitles which can be removed.

Interview with David Lynch (4:53, SD) - nothing special really. He talks about Bill Pullman and Patricia Arquette's acting. German subtitles which can be removed.

Trailer (1:46, SD)

I would be stunned if any US release looked better than this. Buy it if you are a fan.

Here's one of my favorite scenes (spoilers)

sounds pretty awesome! thanks Steve!
got an email earlier today from amazon.de i believe it was saying my order has shipped, but not sure since i know no German says it should be here July 26 or so CANNOT WAIT.

when arrives, gonna try and save it for a Friday night and watch all three films in one sitting... or maybe not. that might be too mindblowing maybe one a night one weekend and then a few weekends later watch them all in a row. hmmm...

Inland Empire has some good scenes, but I don't like it anywhere near as much as Mulholland Dr. (all-time No. 1) or Lost Highway (Top 25). I have never attempted to watch all three in a row.

i don't know if it's true, or how you would be able to know for sure lol but i remember reading (more like glancing) at an article once that said that this was David Lynch's.... "Los Angeles" trilogy. or something like that.

no idea if it's true, or just what some hardcore fans think, but i'm gonna keep that in mind when i watch the films again (and Lost Highway for the first time).

They do take place in LA. They are all about identity and the line between reality and fantasy is blurred. None of the characters overlap and appear in more than one film. So the stories aren't connected as such.

The order wouldn't really matter, but I would go in chronological order: LH, MD, IE.

one of my personal favorite comedies that not a lot of people seem to like or know about. which is understandable. are there better comedies that have more memorable moments? yes. of course. but it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of Sex Drive. and for some weird reason, it stands out above the crowd of most sexually perverted comedies.

maybe it has something to do with a giant doughnut costume...?

there are some very crude, sick, gross jokes and dick and fart joke humor. but it's not as bad as a lot of other "comedies". it's fun, breezy, full of wonderful dialogue and some pretty neat characters and many great cameos and other oddities.

Clark Duke steals the show as Lance and Amanda Crew pulls off the almost impossible task of being cute to "super cute" while still getting laughs, doing some ridiculous things other actresses would probably scoff at and not being massively annoying. like i said, almost impossible to pull that task off.

dozens of big laughs and humorous moments. nothing felt forced or out of place. for as bizarre as some scenarios are, all of them worked for me and made me laugh. not a film to be eating or drinking during unless you want it all over your couch / floor when you get a serious case of the funnies ("you look like a Mexican butthole" )

on sale at Best Buy for $9.99 which was very glad to see and jumped at with ZERO hesitation. glad to finally have this bad boy a part of my collection

PQ: 4/5
AQ: 4/5

The Film: 4.5/5

Notebook

Well I have to admit this movie or better yet story was great. There are few love stories that i can relate to but this one takes them all. I believe that this movie is like so much because of how real it feels and how often people go through this same but not exact situation. The story is solid, the acting is good. Solid picture and its moved it way too the top of my list when it comes to love stories. It got straight to the point (even for a 2hr movie) left out all the extra non sense (like ATONEMENT) and hit you like a emotional freight train. I would recommend this movie to anyone, especially any couple.

Watching this one with your significant other might spark a few things.

MUST SEE

I don't get why that movie is so popular. Go see A Moment to Remember, it craps all over The Notebook.

Sorry, but I despise The Notebook. Maybe it's because of all the hype, but I was very underwhelmed after seeing it. It also probably didn't help that I saw both Away from Her (another great indie film with Julie Christie) and A Moment to Remember before The Notebook. Not even my love for Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams could make me like that film in any way.

Sweet, I love these deals! I had "High and Low" on Amazon's pre-order, but I might cancel it and go with the B&N sale, unless Amazon matches the price. I'm also thinking about blind-buying some of the other ones; anybody know if these are any good? Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thank you guys! I placed the order: I kept seeing "Double Life" mentioned everywhere, "Diabolique" looks intruiging, and once I saw that "Blow Out" was a Brian DePalma film I figured it must be awesome. "Beauty and the Beast" looks interesting. The only one I didn't order was "Broadcast News" (sorry Steve; I had to draw the line somewhere before I went over the $100 threshold). It might not be my kind of movie, but it looks interesting, so I'll rent it someday.

Dang, between this, the two steelbooks I ordered ("Sucker Punch" and "Troy," Canadian), the pile of movies I found on sale yesterday ("Unstoppable," "Shutter Island," a bunch of comedies), and a bunch I ordered for my Birthday ("King Kong," "Rango," "Machinist," "Skeleton Key," some DVDs), I'm spending a lot this month!

The Terminator

I loved this when I was a kid, looking forward to Terminator 3 I watched both the first 2 leading up to it, that was such a good amount of awesome.

And today I look back at the original Terminator and I think to myself I must of been crazy. It's not bad, but my god does it look dated nowadays

Most the supporting actors are horrendious and can't act at all, even there dubbing is lame, special effects are looking rather horrendious as well, mainly Arnolds big old plastercine face gurning through the screen into your soul, and this was supposed to be scary?

The story however, still sticks up, and is still gripping. Simple as machine trying to kill a woman who will be the mother to a child who will rise up and win the war between man and machine. But it's inventive, unpredictable and has some intruging themes, and the main actors are good enough that you want to stick with them.

Most the action still holds up also, unlike most the script, but it feels like typical Cameronism, so I can dig it

7/10
