still, i am gonna watch Inland Empire tonight or maybe Mulholland Dr. or maybe Lost Highway... oh boy

Go for Lost Highway. That's the oldest.

I was hoping to play golf today, but my playing partner doesn't want to play in the 102 temperature.

haha i can't really blame him i wouldn't want to either. we were gonna go today but it rained all night. and tomorrow it's "only" supposed to be 90 so that should be better to withstand.

luckily for me, my new khaki's for work are essentially really thin golf pants material, and are comfortable as well, so i will be good and not get too sweaty and gross

hmm.. then i likely will start with Lost Highway and work my way up chronologically.

in other news i'm watching The Darjeeling Limited for the second time today. i really enjoy this film first time i saw it (and second time) years ago i found it slow and boring, but it has grown on me tremendously. and it looks gorgeous. glad i decided to pick it up last week.

it's probably my third favorite Wes Anderson film behind Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Royal Tenenbaums

my "unwatched" list of blus is (here we go!):

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Antichrist
Armageddon
Back to the Future Part II *
Back to the Future Part III *
Battlestar Galactica: season 4.5 (like, 5 episodes left) and then The Plan
Che *
David Lynch Box *
Dawn of the Dead
Die Hard Collection
Everlasting Moments
2 Fast 2 Furious
Gangs of New York
Inglourious Basterds
National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets *
Revanche
Run Lola Run *
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Seven
Solaris
Summer Hours
The Thin Red Line
Trick 'r Treat
Wedding Crashers

* = blind buy

needless to say, i have an extensive back catalog to get through and i'm tempted to pick up Amelie today while i'm out and about even though i won't get to it for a week or so!

it doesn't help that if i've seen the film BEFORE buying the blu it takes a long while to watch it because well, i already know what i'm seeing so i'm not as eager to watch it right away.

I love Amelie so you'll probably hate it. Only Lynch and Inglourious rank ahead of it from your list.

Tonight I'll be watching two movies.

The selection will come from:

The Sentinel (Sutherland! ),
Cast Away (WIIILLLSSOOONNN),
The Rock (Connery ),
Definitely, Maybe (Never seen it...but Reynolds is hilarious).

I also have The Terminal DVR'd again. Where's our blu-ray Spielberg

Cast Away was on FX this morning. Kind of watched it but never watch movies on TV. Haven't seen it for a long time, eventually I'll pick up the blu.

well, i never learn my lesson and i never keep my word

just came back from Best Buy with three more blind buys (after vowing to never blind buy again ) all from very different genres!

Amelie $9.99 i thought i had seen this before, but this seems like the type of film where if i had seen it, i'm sure i'd remember, so it's a blind buy
Eastern Promises $7.99 - i'm a big Cronenberg fan, so i was shocked a few months ago to learn he made this! i remember renting it years ago and never finishing it because it was so awful and boring and some naked guy kept getting whipped lol. so why the hell would i buy it?! because i wasn't really paying attention and expected an action type film. of course, now having a better feel for Lynch, i feel i will like it more than i did last time. i hope!
Get Him to the Greek $9.99 eh, impulse buy i love Forgetting Sarah Marshall and i think this is some odd sequel, right? eh, Russell Brand almost always makes me laugh.

i'm done blind buying. for good.

even Source Code which i was very much looking forward to in a week, will now be put on hold and rented first before i spend $10 on that! ($5 RZ and $5 BB coupon in case you were wondering )

Paris, Texas doesn't suck. it's just... dull. soooooo dull. i knew it was a slow movie. hell, it's two and half hours long. no movie that is two and a half hours long is gonna be fast paced, so i had no issues with the pacing. i love a lot of slow burning films. Paris, Texas i just could not care much less about.

the score was pretty good but became relatively annoying after the 90 minute mark and very repetitive.

...err, there was more here but somehow got deleted?

needless to say, i disliked Paris, Texas because the story is awful and because it's about a man and his family () my eyes glazed over and i was completely disconnected from it.

looked neat from time to time (directing / cinematography) but overall not much substance here. at least, for me.

2.5/5
You are not entitled to this opinion. It is wrong, spewed from an NSE person like a volcanic eruption of ignorance.

no, afraid i didn't. as i said in another thread, someone could have walked in and shot all those people in the face and i wouldn't have cared for a second. same thing with Hotel Rwanda and a few other movies. it's weird. but for Paris, Texas as soon as they'd start talking about his kid and blah, blah, blah my eyes would glaze over and my brain would disconnect.

Speaking of which, my next greatest blind buy is “Get Him to the Greek.”

I kinda expected this to be a bit on the vulgar side, and sure enough the film has plentiful amounts of profanity, sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll!!! More importantly, the film maintains a steady madcap pace and has enough amusing (if not totally outrageous) situations and funny lines to keep it entertaining.

The story for this is brilliant though; it’s quite thrilling and funny watching the two main characters’ journey, especially since they are so different and are at odds with each other. Conflict and tension remain high as they move from one crazy thing to another. By the end, it’s pretty clear that the film admonishes living too crazily.

The film has solid photography and editing. Acting is pretty swell; I enjoyed everybody’s performances. Writing shows some ups and downs, but has plenty of funny lines. Production value includes some very stylish and slick sets, props, and costumes. Music is quite a mixed bag.

4/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4.5/5, film: 4/5)

Recommendation: If you can handle the R-rated content, then sure, why not?

The Blu-Ray looks and sounds darn near perfect!

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4.5/5

Dang it, bearcat got it for like $3 cheaper than I did.

Definitely, Maybe

What the hell is this? A movie with not a SINGLE explosion? No super powers? No giant bald men racing cars REALLY fast? Psh, this movie is going to suck....

-2 hours later-

I enjoyed it!

I'm glad it wasn't the typical cookie-cutter romantic-comedy..which works for some movies (The Proposal) and not for others (...well most of them). It's definitely not an entirely original approach to the genre, far from it, but it gives it enough of a spin to keep things fresh.

I did call the ending from early on, so it's not exactly a mystery movie
If you have a basic understanding of how these sorts of movies work, even with this one being a little different than your typical one, you'll know what is going to happen in the end. But it didn't make it less enjoyable, because I actually found myself caring about William and
[Show spoiler]April.

I watched the movie because I saw Reynolds was in it, and he did not disappoint. The movie is more 'rom' than 'com' but any opportunity there is for some humor, Reynolds nails it, as always. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I think he has the best comedic timing of pretty much any actor I have ever seen.

The rest of the cast is good enough for what the movie is. Isla Fisher is the second best behind Reynolds.

I'm just going to give this one a general recommendation. If you like romantic comedies, then you'll most likely like this one. Even if you typically don't, there's a chance you'll enjoy this one.

Rating - 4.25/5
