Default Entourage: The Movie

Mark Wahlberg Comments on Entourage Movie

Quote:
The cast and producers of Entourage gathered to discuss the end of the HBO series today at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today. With production on the series over and the final episodes now airing, the panel were asked if the long-discussed Entourage movie might happen.

Said Entourage executive producer Mark Wahlberg, "I said if I had to finance it myself, I'd do it." Referencing the clip reel that introduced the panel, Wahlberg remarked, "I was looking at that clip on the big screen and it looks like a movie to me," joking that whenever HBO cuts together a trailer, "It's the f**king greatest thing you've ever seen."

Wahlberg added, "I certainly hope this has a chance to become a feature film. People have always complained the episodes are too short and they want to go on a journey with these guys." Wahlberg said he felt The Hangover reminded him of Entourage and noted the success of R-rated comedies this year - as a good sign as to how an Entourage film could perform.

Both Wahlberg and series creator Doug Ellin said they felt the ratings for Entourage didn't measure the full audience and that they knew of large groups of young men who watch it together.

Said Ellin, "We're going to do a movie. We're going to do it. It's just a question of when and how quick. Hopefully we'll sit down and come up with an idea and make it happen."

I just wanted them to keep making the TV series. I can't see how a movie will do this show justice.

This will have spoilers in it.

Firstly: No Dom.

Secondly: I hope the movie is funny. Remember when the show was funny?

It would be oh-so-awesome if they would just retcon seasons 6-8 and begin the movie where season 5 ended, which was a great thematic beat for the television series to end on as a whole. Make the movie an alternate storyline of sorts. I realize, yes, that this has no shot at happening but the last three seasons were such a mass of regurgitated plot points, insipid writing, and an overall drop in quality that it would be great if the producers considered this alternative.

But...it would be neat if they started the movie like season 6 should have: in New York (which we should have had more of in the show proper). Other hopes:

- Screw Turtle having a girlfriend/trying to run a dumb business. The only one of those ventures that was entertaining in the show proper was the managing Saigon one.
- Bring back manic Billy Walsh.
- No Dom. Please.
- Don't spend half the movie on the Ari's wife/family subplot. Seriously.
- Speaking of Ari: have him take the studio job, like he should have done in the series. (That would have created a great dynamic in the business side of the show and cut out some later plot redundancies).
- Either have E and Sloan get married, or break up and get her out of the show (like they did in season 4). Just don't have her and that relationship looming as some specter (see seasons 6-8), as it's just tiring and lame writing.
- Have Rufus cameo in some form or fashion.

And since they may start in Paris (because that's where they were headed), perhaps we'll see a Jacqueline [season 4] cameo for Drama? (I hated how they ended that in season 5).

I really question whether there is much of a market for an Entourage movie. It's not like the show ever got huge ratings, it's series finale only got 3.1 million viewers, and while that's fine for HBO since it doesn't rely on advertising it shows there isn't a huge fan base for the show. That's less than Firefly, which got around 4.5 million viewers and was a cult classic, but still bombed at the box office.

In addition none of the Entourage stars have done much since the show ended and certainly aren't box office draws. I also don't see the need for the movie. While I didn't really like the finale (or the final couple seasons in general) I thought it wrapped the show up well enough and have no idea what story they could tell that would be worthy of a movie.

^^I'd go and see an Entourage movie because it's one of my favorite shows of all time, and the subject lends itself to the format as light fare. And I don't think anyone is looking for a tentpole or blockbuster here. But it's not going to cost any (much) money, unless they reaaaalllly try to Hangover it and head to Thailand or something. Barring that it should turn a profit in its theatrical window.

Can't wait for this. I have been waiting for the news of a movie ever since the last episode. I figured it would get the green light at some point.

Count me in!

Didn't like how the show ended but I am still a fan. Now we just need a Veronica Mars movie.

Cool thanks for the update!

Don't know how I like the premise... Vinny Chase in a Dracula movie...

Hope that they fix the massive errors that was made in that rushed finale during the show, but I have faith. Will be nice to see the gang and Ari back together and hopefully it will do well and maybe get a sequel.

Can't get enough Entourage... and Sloan

If they pretended that the last, say, three seasons didn't happen, that would be fantastic.
