Yes I've always noticed this. Maybe he is referring to another camel punching incident? After all Conan seems to have a penchant for punching camel/horses.

That always bugged me too! I always thought that he was a replacement for the first guy, but they just kind of disregarded that it was a new actor playing the role. Just change the name and no one will notice kind of thing.

LOL yeah I think punkguy might be right, like they figured the audience would remember the camel incident but not put 2 and 2 together that the guy with Conan wasn't the same guy.

Watching now after years, Wilt Chamberlain actually did a good acting job and Grace Jones sure was a colorful character on screen.

It isn't the US theatrical ending. But I saw the princess being carried off in the end in 1982 in a theater that got a diiferent print than the standard US print. So the princess being carried off in the end is *a* theatrical ending.

Blimey, 50 pages of debate about artfully-censored horse falls, Moby Dick, blueberries and alternate endings..... and now we find there's a problem with the audio....

This could run and run.

US/Can version:
no Moby Dick scene, no princess ending and "thats another story"

Collectors dvd (which i prefer, but didnt grow up watching):
has moby dick scene, with princess and "this story shall also be told"

CE DVD is what i wanted the BD to be.

The Destroyer Subotai replacement (Malik) is Bob the goon from Batman! Among other films.

something cool i noticed when i got the CE DVD.

what is best in life: Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, hear the lamentation of their women.

well conan crushes thorgrim and rexor, thulsa doom takes off running and the princess screams for thulsa doom to come back.

Crom granted his wish!

The box shows the Fox/MGM logos and every country so far has gotten the same Fox/MGM discs which are all-region and have NTSC special features. They would not put up extra money to make a region-coded PAL release for France if they didn't even bother giving Australia a non-UK-censored disc.

I was a consultant on the uk dvd of conan the destroyer from 2004. It has a commentary with sarah douglas.

recently i learned about a new company in the UK that owns the rights for conan the destroyer. both for dvd and blu ray.

the bad news is that there is NO release date of yet for a blu ray edition of conan the destroyer at this time.

the good news is that they recently released a new version of conan the destroyer on dvd and its uncut. which you can read here:

Well my friend picked up Barbarian, so I got a chance to compare the audio issues in the beginning of the movie. Is it horribly bad? to me yes, it is definitely noticeable. I have no clue why they did this, but unless it is fixed(which I doubt they will). I will not be picking up this release.

Mess with our movies and people won't buy them Universal, you guys should know that by now!

You know I think Destroyer gets too much hate, I watched it last night, and I enjoyed it very much.

Ok I understand the Moby Dick/bluberries scene being cut. But what of the no princess ending? Is that good or bad? I want the ending with the music. Which version is that one on?

Well, I just checked my UK BD and compared it with this youtube video I found of the first ten minutes of Conan. Which video edition this was ripped from is unknown to me.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Sure enough, the choir aspects has been dialed down or possibly all together disappeared for a few moments on my BD when compared to this video, who's source is unknown. Riding up to the village the choir was present, but once the attack actually begins, it seems to virtually disappear. As soon as the dogs run towards Conans father, the choir is once again present.

With the direct comparison between my BD and the above video it's obvious the choir is missing for those moments. The movie is by no means ruined all of a sudden, but it is odd and disappointing nonetheless.
Question is, is the Youtube version playing the 2.0 audio or 5.1? Anyone know, if the 2.0 original soundtrack has this problem, or whether its really the remixing of the 5.1 that introduced this issue. My question is, how does the 2.0 original soundtrack sound?

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/49850...the-barbarian/

still would like to see & hear the youtube find though, wonder if the US version is OK, I will have to check soon as I have something to compare to.

Conan the Barbarian fans, the soundtrack on the Blu-Ray is severely botched in dozens of places, not just the opening battle. I've already sent a letter of complaint to Universal, please do the same. If they don't hear from us, they won't fix the problem. Furthermore, none of the Blu-Rays feature the original mono recording, so we are all now stuck with the remastered and flawed 5.1 track. Here's what I've wrote on another forum, I will post this in as many locations as I can:

After further evaluation, I can no longer recommend this Blu-Ray. As you can see from my original review below, I'm not a very hard person to please. All I ever ask for is just a simple unmolested 2K transfer. After evaluating the 5.1 DTS Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-Ray, I came to conclude that this release is extremely flawed. It's completely unacceptable and should be 100% recalled. I will write a letter to Universal and can forward it to anyone who would like to submit a similar complaint. If anyone could be so kind, please post the correct complaint contact information for Universal.

To start with, the remastered soundtrack has too many mistakes to list, we are talking in the order of dozens of instances. Mostly to Poledouris' score (dropped instruments, sometimes they are mixed so quietly that they are practically inaudible, etc.), but also to sound effects. What makes this film special to me and I'm sure many other fans as well, are three pivotal scenes. And they have all been COMPLETELY ruined.

Scene 1 - The beginning of the film, where the small village is attacked, the chorus is completely missing. Sure it's there when the horsemen are riding through the woods, but once the massacre starts it's completely gone. The chorus is missing from the entire battle. The score sounds weak and awkward and changes numerous key shots and sequences. This is not just some small chunk of music that we are missing, this is the THEME score to Conan the Barbarian that has been completely erased.

Scene 2 - After the ghosts fail to take Conan's soul, there's a beautiful scene by the ocean where Schwarzenegger wields his sword. Again the chorus is completely missing. It's only just barely audible during the last second of the scene. This was an incredibly powerful moment which had a very prominent chorus. Without it, the emotional impact is missing. This is a pivotal scene in the entire film.

Scene 3 - Right before the final showdown, before Conan prays to Crom, the chorus as the horsemen approach is completely missing. This was one of the most beautiful pieces of music, completely gone, during the climax of the film. This is as unfortunate as it gets.

I hope Universal has the decency to correct the soundtrack, or at the very least include the original mono lossless. The fans deserve it. They don't have to do a complete recall, but should have it as a replacement option for those who would like to replace their discs.

My original review:

I picked up the U.S. release today (Universal). The film looks as good as it can without a proper 4K, OCN remaster. There's grain and dirt and the image is inconsistent throughout.

However... It's a straight modern 2K transfer, completely unmolested. No DNR, no EE, no weird new color timing (teal push), etc. And even though I would love a brand new 4K, OCN state of the art remaster, it's not going to happen. What's been release is completely competent and adequate and gets my approval.

NOTE: This Blu-Ray does not have the original mono soundtrack. Some points should be taken off for that. The 5.1 DTS Master Audio sounds very good.

So which of these releases do I buy? The Universal US releases or the Fox UK/HK/JPN releases?
