Why would you say that? Rebecca is a great film, and quite highly regarded.

Rebecca is incredible, if you want to see a truly terribly Hitchcock watch Suspicion.
Also, my favorite of his is The Lady Vanishes. Maybe not his best made, but very entertaining. As for our healthcare, if you go into an emergency room without an actual emergency, sure you'll wait for hours, but otherwise they get to you pretty damn quick. |

Among his non-suspense films, I myself have an inordinate fondness for Rich and Strange I wouldn't call Suspicion terrible. Disappointing, certainly, because of the sharp left turn into the cornfield at the end (and there's a long story behind that), but that aside I think it's quite suspenseful. |

I second that
![]() Rebecca is a amazing film. Seems to me some people are trying to be cool by disliking a popular movie then proclaiming a lesser known Hitchcock movie as being 'great'.... As far as his older films I like the original The man Who knew Too much more then the James Stewart one. Also I find a lot of his older films great IMO. I love the scene, I think its in Secret Agent, where the main characters are killing a guy who they think is a spy. Hitch goes back in forth between the killing and the guys wife and dog. Its intercut showing the dog whining as if it senses its masters death. Also IMO its hard to go wrong with any movie with Peter Lorre in it. Plus even his worst old movies have elements that shine in comparison to a lot of movies made at the same time. As far as movies of his that are not Thrillers. I would love to see a Blu-ray of The Trouble with Harry. Not a very popular movie, but I enjoy it. Last edited by Banned User; 08-05-2011 at 02:47 PM. |

My experience with silent films is not extensive, but Faust ranks at the top of what I have seen. (Images that are unforgettable galore) I am even more amped now to get my hands on The Phantom Carriage on BD. (another powerful image driven film) |

Same here. I think it's a good film. Out of the 40+ Hitchcock films I've seen the only one I think is bad is UNDER CAPRICORN. Cardiff, Bergman, Cotton------still a dull picture (Hitchcock would've called it banal).
Hitchcock really hit his sweet spot in the 50's in part because he was working with the best artists in the industry (Bob Burks, Henry Bumstead, Bernard Herrmann, etc). Couple that with Hitchcock's stellar direction and you have great cinema. Vertigo being the pinnacle of that period, imo. Last edited by ShellOilJunior; 08-05-2011 at 08:00 PM. |

Rebecca is a great picture, although many would argue (myself included) that it is more of a Selznick than a Hitchcock. That doesn't necessarily make it a lesser film, though.

If it was shrinkwrapped by Criterion, as it probably was, then Barnes & Noble is not to blame. This was probably just a simple manufacturing error: if an automated line, the inserter "missed" picking of a disc, if a manual line, the worker probably turned their head to sneeze or something and the package passed them by.
