They need a new trailer cause I have no idea what this movie is about. They need to give details on the general story of the movie.

This is not a trailer, it's a teaser, meant to whet appetites for the movie. Actual trailers will be out closer to the December release date, the first probably being in September/October.

It didn't tease anything though. Is it a drama? Is it an action movie? Who is good and who is bad?

I am positive that Fincher's verison will be superior than the original Swedish film. I like it, but it's not visually invigorating; Fincher is an outstanding visual director, so I know he'll satisfy me with this.

Has there ever been a film more up a director's alley? Only thing I found exceptional about the Swedish version was Naomi Rapace. Don't get me wrong. I like it, but Fincher can easily outdo it. Just my opinion though...

I'm glad he's back in the crime drama game.

I feel the same way.

Now how excplict is this going to be, I wonder?

Edit: well after rewatching the teaser, what I was talking about is in there. For those who've seen the original and read the book know what I'm talking about.

[Show spoiler]The b.j. and rape scenes?
Yeah, I was surprised to see them (or bits of them) in the teaser.

There was an interview with Daniel Craig (which involved a lot of swearing) where he said the film is very brutal and grim

It teased a lot of stuff, it just didn't spell it out. It's really a teaser that grabs you by the balls, and it makes you think "Well I wonder what all that was about" which is what a teaser should do...

The teaser is funny in this regard. It seems designed for people who have already seen the Swedish version or I guess read the novel. It's like here's this, here's that, remember this. It's odd because the excuse for making it was to offer the adaptation to a wider audience.

I think it will be great. I love the look and I think he chose the music as a way of saying this version is going way beyond the original adaptation.

Saw it yesterday, I was honestly expecting much more sex & violence...maybe Fincher once again got hassled by the studio to make unwarranted cuts.

The titles were the most intense part of the film! It was way too much like a James Bond title sequence for the kind of movie it was.

Only two things I disliked about the film, one it implied that overweight men are shady and too many damn Apple products!

I studied product placements last semester and I noticed the Apple Laptops, the Purell that Martin used in his basement, and the Happy meals all had prime, foreground camera positioning in this film. The fact that you and I noticed them this much made the steep costs worth it lol

It's a Sony/MGM movie, it's got to have product placement in it

I also noticed these and the 7 Eleven box during the shot where Lisbeth is sitting in front of the heater smoking... Yeah, that was a very good way to market Purell. I will be buying a bottle tonight.

I have never purchased anything because i saw it in a movie or on a tv show. I dont mind if they r just sitting there though. I do think it's laughable if they actually get a mention in the dialog, or worse become a plot point. Examples of product placement actually distracting me from the show include the infamous Smallville episode about Stride gum, the Alias ep where Sydney is looking to steal r car to pursue a fleeing villain and says "Let's take the F-150" and the fact the Kia Optima is such an important sponsor on Nikita that no matter what country in the world they r in that week, they drive the same silver Optima. It must fold up into a suitcase

It was a decent flick, but I hope Fincher moves onto other projects as it'd be a waste of his talents to make anymore IMO.

That's not how it works and it's not how advertising works in general. There are very few circumstances for hard goods (as opposed to music/movies, etc.) where people see an ad or product placement and say to themselves, "oh, I have to buy that!" What these ads and product placements do is create "impressions" that work at a subconscious level in the brain. Advertising in general does not cause anyone to buy a product. What it causes people to do is to pick one brand over another when they buy that product category. And it's why brand name products still sell far more than generics even when the products come out of the same factory.

Ask anybody and they'll say, "I'm not affected by advertising". But products that are advertised more generally sell better.

There's a story from decades ago when late night talk show hosts used to read some of the spots themselves. Johnny Carson (The Tonight Show) got a new sponsor and he ripped into the sponsor making tons of jokes about the product for several nights in a row. The company (which was either privately held or the CEO was the founder) got pissed and cancelled the advertising. A few weeks later they discovered that sales had skyrocketed when Carson joked about the product. They wanted back on the show, but Carson refused to let them back, at least not with him doing the read.

As far as product placement is concerned, you're right that it should not distract from the show. Years ago, if a show wanted to use your product, they generally paid you. Now it's the opposite and there are specialists who look for paid product placements. Personally, I don't think this should be permitted unless the show/movie is forced to document in the credits that they were paid. Because where do you draw the line? When does a show/movie become nothing more than an advertisement?

Nope, according to Fincher he doesn't do extended cuts (although Zodiac had an extra few minutes but that cut was his final). Dragon tattoo original came in at 3 hours and he personally cut it to the length it is now with no studio interference. So there won't be an extended cut.

I also agree with this, in that it's more different form the original than the Swedish film. http://www.movies.com/movie-news/sex...-salander/5948
