I may also wait until the price comes down somewhat. Also I would like to read the reviews first, because I'm hoping it will be more than a slight improvement over the DVDs... with movies from the early 70s, you never know.

It's possible it's just a cash-in for the new movie but these deserve a good AV transfer.

I thought this was a double-pack? I find it ironic that we should have to pay twice when the actors were only paid once.

Those Salkind's were cheeky buggers....

I'll definitely be picking these up. I'd love to see a release of The Return of the Musketeers (1989) too. This was never even released on DVD in the UK.

A double pack would have been preferable but decent transfers mean a must buy for me. I'm not bothered about the third, a belated cash-in tainted by Roy Kinnear's pointless death. Its Flashman novelist George MacDonald Fraser's writing that makes the films, especially the background dialogue. Where else do you get Raquel Welch married to Spike Milligan?

Over on amazon.uk, it says they are to be Region B/2 coded. Dang.

When's the U.S. release?

I think a cash-in can be described as 'to obtain a profit or other advantage by timely exploitation'. With the new Musketeers movie doing the rounds our friends at Optimum decided it would be a good idea to release one of their catalogue titles and cash-in on the new movies publicity and possible success.

The guys Anchor Bay have done similar with The Adventures of Tintin release.

chip75-what you have looks like a good quote from a dictionary. New 3 musketeers looks to be a shoddy piece of tat. Any association with new 3 musketeers would be embarrissing

I agree to a certain point but my local ASDA has Alexandre Dumas' novel with a nice new cover on it to cash-in on the movies release. There's also a new version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo there to give with it (and a couple of others that slip my mind). Hopefully the new film will point audiences into the right direction of the Richard Lester movies.

Anyway they've been knocking out Musketeer films for more than a 100 years and I'm sure the makers of each one decided it would be fortuitous to make each one at that certain point of time.

But you can't beat Raquel Welch no matter how hard you try....

Roy Kinnear died during the filming of The Return of the Musketeers.
I was so gutted hearing he died, I think it was the first celebrity whose death I found upsetting. I adored him as a kid
still feel sadness now.
