Are you referring to the UK Skynet release? I was under the assumption that it looked identical to the DNR-molested US disc. Had I known otherwise, I would've bought it back when it was selling for a fiver.

Woe.

Same here! It's very misleading!

I don't have a source on that either but it was being done by MGM but uh, with the financial troubles they had, it's not looking likely that it's going to be coming our way.

The "Remastering of The Terminator by Lowry" has been confirmed by Van Ling a few times. Look it up. It is ready but hasn't been released due to MGM's problems. Now that they are fixed I'd expect to hear news of this release within the year.

I don't think it was said it was a 4k scan though.

And yeah, change the title of the thread. I also keep thinking there is a new T2 release coming out. Why not change it to the "Terminator Mega-Thread" for talks about all things terminator. Even the new ones that I don't really like.

Read the reviews. The UK Skynet Edition is identical to the US Skynet Edition. Perhaps its probably the same transfer. Whoever told you that doesn't know what they're talking about.

Maybe he meant the Australian disc. The Australian Skynet edition has less dnr applied then the US skynet release. The older disc is still the version to get in terms of pq. Though it only has the directors cut (which is the best version imho).

Thanks for the info. In that case, I will probably pick it up, as I said, when I can get it really cheap. Preferably around $5, though I'd probably pay up to $9 brand new. But not going to pay anymore than that, as I said, I'm perfectly happy with the DVD.

Do I have bad eyes or something? I'm watching this now and don't see any problems with it. Where are the DNR issues and what else were people complaining about? What is wrong with the Skynet Edition? Can someone make a list of all the big problems with it?

Its more filtered and bit starved than DNR'd.
The main issue is the old as the hills poor when it was made master they have all been using, its garbage

Yeah, that's the main problem. A fresh scan needs to be done.

I have the UK optimum studiocanal release. Did a side by side before getting rid of the lionsgate skynet edition. Less filtering but only slight improvement. Retains more grain and fine detail in certain shots.

Yeah, I have seen those comparisons on AVS and the difference is slight with the Optimum version having the edge. I only bought the U.S. version because I paid $13 new for it where the U.K. version was $20 after shipping.

Plus you get a list of special feature and both versions of the film to boot.

I got the Skynet edition for a little less than $10, it doesn't blow me away in terms of PQ but it's pretty respectable. I'm glad it's the extended version, I only saw it for the first time last year after almost 20 years of watching the movie, so the new scenes were super easy to identify, and I thought they added a LOT to the movie.

Some of the scenes were obviously cut because they conflicted tonally, but I loved their inclusion. The additional stuff with T-800 and John was great, it really fleshed out their relationship and made you care more at the end. Bringing Kyle back in for that hallucination scene was excellent too, surprised that wasn't in the main movie.

Has anyone compared the Japanese release? I hear it's superior to all other copies.

Probably because he looked too old due to T2 being filmed nearly 8 years later than the original film.

I've read in a few places it's the same as the studiocanal transfer in terms of PQ/AQ that was used for a few of the european releases and is highly overpriced for a similiar transfer.
