I keep hearing a lot of people asking for when this and that will be released on Blu when some titles are really unnecessary. For example, Family Guy, Simpsons series, etc.
You can scan movies from the film roll at whatever resolution you want and thus that will benefit. Digital mediums shot in HD will benefit. However, shows and films made in 480 cannot get any higher. Sure, it could benefit from a professional restoration and upscaling but is that worth it and will it even happen? What other titles do you guys think can't/won't benefit much from a Blu ray release. Here's my list for obvious reasons: Blaire Witch Project (stupid film) Super Size Me Any animated show that was not made into a film print (nearly all cartoons from the 80's through the 2000's.) P.S. Is it true that the current series 19 of The Simpsons is animated in 720p or 1080p? Last edited by Mermen79; 01-13-2008 at 05:02 AM. |

The soundtrack is what could benefit the most from a blu release. As far as the animation goes, anything can benefit from being cleaned up and even if it won't benefit from high res it can benefit from space. |

I thought Blaire Witch was shot on a home camera. Isn't that what made it 'realistic?' I mean, the gimmick was all about it being homemade. As for the Simpsons on cell, that is true with seasons up to like ten or something. However, I don't think those film prints exist anymore. From what I know (which I could be wrong), they were stored on tapes. |

I think the people that are waiting for TV series such as the Simpsons to come on BluRay is simply for shelf space. Matt Groening has already stated his plans to release Simpsons on blu. Season 1 is all on 1 disc. Most seasons will be 1 or 2 discs depending on extra content. I don't think people want it for a better quality picture. Just smaller cases to save shelf space... Now as far as titles that would be a waste of time..... That's an easy one... ![]() LOL -- |

The benefit to Blu isn't just 1080p. You also have better AQ. Then there's the matter of storage: being able to put multiple seasons of a show on 1 BD, or add in a lot of bonus features or interactivity.
I'd LOVE to have Family Guy and a lot of the WB animated shows (Batman: TaS, Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain) on Blu. |
