I really despise remakes/reboots. And Blade Runner is in my top 10 movies of all time so this is even worse.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt said it right. We just need to make a stand and tell Hollywood we're not going to put up with (blanky) movies anymore. (paraphrased)

Don't forget to film it in 3D! Force the higher ticket prices!

I don't know what to feel! On one hand I love Blade Runner but on the other hand i don't think a sequel is necessary or even possible to do in a good way.

Though I must say I am glad it is Ridley who is involded in this. That said I would must rather see him a different PKD book as a movie.
A Ridley Scott Ubik would be amazing!

Trilled by this news, I love the original and I also have an open mind, so making another entry to this movie is definitely welcome! Glad to hear the Ridley Scott will be directing

Well, he already agreed to reprise his role in Indiana Jones. It's no stretch to imagine him doing the same for Blade Runner.

As a BR fan, my iniital reaction:

I'll have a more concrete reaction to this news sometime on June 8, 2012 after seeing Prometheus. This seems completely unnecessary to me right now though.

I do not understand why some people are assuming this will be a remake/reboot. Can you please take me through your thought process on that? It makes absolutely no friggin' sense whatsoever. Especially since Ridley Scott is the one making this film.

Unless, of course, you're just mindlessly trashing the film in a knee jerk reaction.

That didn't stop him from making G.I. Joe, did it?

Angry internet nerds today would've said the same thing after the original Godfather. Or the original Alien. Or the first Star Wars movie. I mean... those films were already perfect; so there was nothing to be gained from a sequel... right?

Right?

Right?
You have a point. But, the difference between Godfather 1 and 2, A New Hope and ESB and Alien and Aliens and this project, is that they were done close to the original films typically at the creative peak of those involved. How did Godfather 3, the Star wars prequels and Alien Resurrection turn out in a lot of people's eyes?

I'd love for Ridley Scott to make a fantastic Blade Runner sequel. But, I'm skeptical for the time being. Like I said, right or wrong, Prometheus will likely inform my opinion on how capable the Ridley Scott of 2012 is of making a great Blade Runner sequel.

I'm not pre-judging the project, just skeptical, that's all.

There was only true "director's cut" of BR (the 1992 cut was not Scott's, no matter what it was called). The Final Cut's "redone" effects amounted to no more than a nip/tuck to a few problem shots. It was hardly a Lucas-scale redo.

lol, I bought mine ages ago. I've tried to watch it twice and both times I've zonked out. I used to love the movie and the visuals are still awesome but I guess I don't have the patience any more.

The soundtrack

Except that Deckard wasn't a replicant.

According to this, it won't be a reboot, but either a prequel or a sequel:
Quote:
We’ve known since March that Warner Bros.’ financing and production company Alcon Entertainment was working on securing a rights package (one that included rights specifically for prequels and sequels, not remakes) for Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi thriller “Blade Runner,” but news has been quiet since then. Not so today. Deadline reports that the film’s original director, Ridley Scott, is set to direct and produce a new “Blade Runner” film that “advances [the] seminal and groundbreaking science fiction film.”

The exclusive news doesn’t come with many details – it’s unknown if this next film will be a sequel or a prequel, whether any of the original cast will be involved, and how much it will reach back to the film’s source material, Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Considering that the first film was only very loosely based on that work, it’s safe to say that we probably won’t get too much more Dick in this new film. The only thing we do know is that it will not be a remake, at least as far as Alcon’s rights package guarantees that.
We definitely don't need "much more Dick in this new film".

He hardly 'George Lucas'ed' the film. Ridley Scott had the decency to include various versions of the film for the 5-disc DVD and Blu-ray releases, plus The Final Cut is generally considered to be the best cut of the film.

I'm quite skeptical of this upcoming sequel/prequel because Blade Runner is my favourite film. However, who better to direct another film than Ridley Scott?
