Also brought up was whether we should be getting upgrades of films from DVD to blu-ray, when there are many films still not available in either medium.
Ooooh it all makes sense now. Okay, thanks for filling me in. I'm rather pleased to have missed out on that debate; following all the arguments in the Star Wars thread is more than enough for me.

Don't worry; I could tell you were pleased.

That's great. Wasn't there last week when I checked. I get their newsletters, and it wasn't on the last one of those either. Must have just been posted in the last few days. Makes me happy.

Maybe a week or so, tops. Not that long in real world time - like he said, a few days.

However, there's a lot in November to be excited about. I'd love Rushmore, 12 Angry Men, and The Three Colors trilogy. I'm settling for 12 Angry Men for now - stupid university eating away all my money.

Let me preface this by saying that I blind buy most of my criterion films and don't regret any of them.... I just got around to watching insignificance and found it to be not a particularly good movie (and that's putting it Mildly). Am I missing something? Maybe I'm just overreacting to it because my expectations going in were pretty high but I just did not get what they were going for......

The only part of the movie I enjoyed was the scene where "The Actress" is explaining the theory of relativity. There was a refreshing energy during that scene that caught my attention. The rest of the movie fell flat for me though

Any opinions on the film?

I'm guessing my "Battle of Algiers" is being handled by DHL, because it shipped on the 15th, and it's made it from California, to Nevada, to California, then back to Nevada so far

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the films directed by Nicolas Roeg probably aren't for you, then. Maybe, you like The Witches (1990), though, with Angelica Huston! It's not typical Roeg fare but it's a great children's movie and Roald Dahl adaptation, I think.

I think "Insignificance" is wonderful... What complaints do you have about it, other than "it's a bad movie" ? The acting seemed good enough, there weren't any cheap gimmicks as far as camera work (I guess the whole story line could be seen as a gimmick/use of characters) and the "Theory of Relativity" scene was hysterical....

Not the original poster, but Insignificance was just dull to me. I couldn't get into it, and I wanted to enjoy it. I also couldn't get into Walkabout. I like Roeg's cinematography though.

I skipped blind buying Insignificance. From reading about it I could kind of tell it wasn't my bag. However I love Walkabout. Wonderful film..

I made the mistake of blind-buying Insignificance. Let's just say, it's place in my household didn't last long.

I was going to blind buy it during the B&N sale, but I bought a bunch of other titles, and put it off for the next sale. I then watched it and was glad I didn't blind buy it, or Black Moon.

Everything I remember from the last one was the Videodrome upgrade and Cronos .
I'm wondering how little they will release in December. Belle de Jour and Y Tu Mama Tambien seem most likely. But you can never tell with them. Nobody saw 12 Angry Men coming so soon. Would they do back to back Bergman? They did back to back Cocteau with Beauty and the Beast and Orpheus.

I thought the music score was awful and really distracting.... But worse than that, I thought the movie was just kind of boring. And I DID enjoy walkabout so I don't have a problem with him as a director or his slow pace.

Like I said before, I did love the "theory of relativity" scene but that's the only scene that really grabbed my attention. I can't really place my finger on what turned me off to the rest of the movie though. I wanted to love it but didn't

It's one of the movies that I can appreciate what they were trying to do after the fact. But I just wanted it to end already as I was watching it.
