I think there are over a dozen statements exactly like this one saying there would be no extended edition, in the 2D release thread, prior to them announcing the extended cut. I understand the economics and PR cleanup involved in them releasing an extended cut, but I do think that the GL franchise has a distant shot of continuing depending on the legs of the animated series and so forth. If that happens I think WB might kick off that move to a sequel with a double dip release (which are a way of getting back recouping from their investment).
For this release, I am not saying there is any chance of them finishing the 3D- all my email asked them was if they'd spend a little bit of effort and give us a seamless branching 3D/2D option.
And I told them, that I would absolutely buy a double dipped release if they ever got around to it. Just like I've bought Superman Returns 4 times, and most of the Harry Potter series that many times so far, and will buy each of those one more time when they release the appropriate films in 3D (even if it's just a turn your glasses on now sort of thing).

Yes but the stuff that will be in the extended edition was just stuff that they picked up from the cutting room floor. It was filmed in 2D so it required nothing to put back into the movie.

That depends on when they cut it and how far vfx had gone with it- given that there were vfx in a solid percentage of the movie. Depending on when they cut it, there could have been a lot of work required (CGI/music and other audio mixing/etc)- and if it was a very late cut, then there is no indication that the 3D conversion wasn't already started on that stuff.

And again- for now, I'm just wishing it will be available on the 3D disc- ideally with a branching option.

The version of this movie shown in theaters was bad, I'm hopeful that the extended cut is better and/or the 3D is great but I expect this will be one I buy on day one and trade into Moviestop before the week is up and the trade in value is high.
